The Collector noticed it as well and made a direction sign with arrows that change direction when the buildings move.\n But where did the sign itself go? Look for it.
Completed: The direction sign is working: today the Observatory is that way, and the Station is this way. But it’s unlikely that this device helped the Collector open portals.
