Completed: Did you find a broken flask with red liquid in it? Maybe that's what caused the handprints and footprints to be red. Much better than it being someone's blood. This liquid looks like some kind of fruit juice. Okay, wolfsbane! If my knowledge is correct, the concentrated juice of the wolfsbane should have the effect of speeding up the werewolf's metamorphosis.
