- I understand your feelings, as it is probably part of your job to suspect strangers. However, I can attest that I am the heir to Von Oben. He took me in when I was very young. He only had one pendant with him. Here, look at this.

- This pendant is the only item that relates to my life before I was adopted by Mr. von Oben. It is a protective talisman for the nomadic tribe from which I was born. That tribe makes its living raising horses and making jewelry out of precious metals. I still sometimes fondly recall the sensation of the rocking carriage.
