- Look what our ritual gave us: it’s a Carnet de Bal - the little cards from a ball where the evening’s dance partners were recorded. But they’re all empty. Well-to-do grooms weren’t lining up for the young Mistress; no one invited her for a single dance at the balls. Was she really that unattractive? Poor girl. It’s hard to believe this is the same Mistress of the Manor.
