A BEAUTIFUL MEMORY
Salem
While all these mystical things, along with this ethereal melody, are indeed connected to Matilda’s ghost, the Marquis has nothing to worry about. Bring me some artifacts and I will explain.
The glow of the artifacts reveals the ghostly figures of Matilda and Oliver dancing in the gazebo. The City has embraced their love story and preserved it in the fog, its soft whispers reaching the garden.
-
ARDENT FEELINGS
Lawrence de Bertrand
The melody is coming from a distant corner of the garden. The canopy of trees blocks out the sky above, and it’s getting dark... What was that flicker of light? Could it be musicians playing by candlelight? Let’s go and see.
You’ve found a burning candelabra. But who brought it here? Oh, I tried to blow out the candles, but they won’t go out - it’s phantom flames. It seems that the ghosts are still haunting me. But why?
-
CELESTIAL VISIONS
Lawrence de Bertrand
Whether it’s the elusive melody or the fragrance of the moon lilies, everything seems so full of mystery to me now. Did you see that? Some strange moths just fluttered over the garden. Help me catch them.
You have skillfully caught the hovering moths. And yet, they are as ethereal as the music filling this garden. I’ve never seen moths like that before, though I used to enjoy catching butterflies. Are they creatures of the fog?
-
FRAGRANCE OF THE NIGHT
Lawrence de Bertrand
I think the music is coming from the flower garden. The moon lilies there should be about to bloom right now. They don’t emit any sound, only a scent, but let’s check just in case.
The lilies are indeed in full bloom, emitting a delightful fragrance, but no sound. Hmm, I don’t remember asking the gardener, but someone put a bouquet of these moon lilies in my sister’s favorite vase.
-
A CHARMING BARD
Lawrence de Bertrand
I am not much of a music expert, but I think I hear a lute leading the melody. Has a bard wandered into the garden to entertain the public again? Let’s find the lute.
The lute you’ve found once belonged to Oliver, my sister’s lover. He had won Matilda over with his skill... But the melody is still coming from somewhere, even though no one is playing the lute right now.
-
INNERMOST DREAMS
Lawrence de Bertrand
In the past, open-air concerts were often held in the garden, but the melody is not coming from where the musicians would usually play. Oh, you can also see that gazebo?
I thought I was hallucinating... We never had a gazebo here before! You’re saying that the fog of the City can move buildings? I’ll take your word for it. The gazebo does indeed look foggy.
-
THIS IS FATE!
Salem
Matilda is about to throw her bouquet, and the guests are ready to catch their chance at mutual love. I’ll enchant the ghostly bouquet so that both spirits and humans can catch it. Quickly, lend me some artifacts.
The bride’s bouquet soared over the guests! The artifacts gave it a serious boost, and the glowing bouquet flew over the crowd and landed... right in Juliette’s hands! Fate has made its choice.
-
A FESTIVE FINALE
Detective
The case of the mystical storm and the angry ghost is closed, culminating in a true happy ending - a ghost wedding. This year, the townspeople celebrated Halloween with a special flair.
-
THE LONG-AWAITED HAPPINESS
Martha
Now the lovers will exchange their vows, and the Queen of the Night will join their souls. I will weave a special spell so that everyone can see the ghostly ceremony, but I’ll need some artifacts.
In the glow of the artifacts, the whole ceremony looks majestic. I couldn’t have achieved this with magic alone. Look, the newlyweds are doing their first dance. It’s as if they are floating on wings of love.
-
A GUARD OF HONOR
Detective
Guess what I’m doing at the ghost wedding. Guarding the dessert! The undead love sweet things, so Salem has entrusted me with keeping the wedding cake safe until the ceremony. I hid it well, don’t you think?
I knew you’d find the cake, but don’t tell anyone where it is.\n Oh, Salem’s owl just sent word that it’s time to bring out the treats. Which means the fun is about to begin!
-
SOULFUL MUSIC
Salem
Matilda’s fiancé Oliver has arrived. He is a musician, and I have a gift for him - an enchanted lute. But I can’t find it among the other gifts the guests have brought. Can you help me find it?
You have found my gift for the groom - how timely! He will play this enchanted soul lute for the arriving guests while we are busy with other preparations.
-
PREDATORY DÉCOR
Valerie
Oh, I love parties! Especially ones as unusual as a ghost wedding! The spooky-cute decor I made for Halloween would be perfect for the ceremony. Can you find it?
Thanks for finding my garland of dewdrops and toothy flytraps. Can you believe Queen Salem herself praised it? Help me hang it, but be careful - it might bite.
-
A ROYAL GARMENT
Salem
The most important thing at a wedding is a happy bride. And a beautiful dress always lifts a girl’s spirits, even if she’s a ghost. I have conjured up an ethereal dress for Matilda. How do you like it?
Truth be told, I consulted the best otherworldly couturiers on the style of this ghostly bridal gown. But the shimmering moth trim was my own idea.
-
GUESTS FROM ALL OVER
Adeline Svensson
A ghost wedding on Halloween - now that’s what I call a sensation! I’ll start covering the story as soon as I finish writing the invitations. Salem has enchanted the cards for them. But where on earth are they?
Thank you for finding the enchanted invitations. Don’t let them fly away until I’ve verified the addresses. It’s important to get them right: we’re inviting guests from different dimensions to this Halloween wedding.
-
A SYMBOL OF RECONCILIATION
Salem
Matilda accepted her brother’s repentance, and her wrath faded, replaced by sadness. I see that the spirit wishes to give something to Lawrence. Bring me some artifacts so that he can receive the gift.
The light from the artifacts enveloped a plush bunny in a glow. This toy helped little Matilda fall asleep. Since the spirit is giving it to Lawrence, that means he has been forgiven and can now sleep peacefully.
-
THE DARK SIDE
Salem
So, we have evidence of our hapless poisoner’s remorse all over the place. Perhaps Matilda will be at peace now.\n But what’s that thing in the bushes? Be careful, it exudes dark emanations!
That’s right, this is the flask that gives off dark emanations. It contains... oh, wine with a generous dose of rat poison! Was Lawrence planning to poison someone else instead of repenting? Whose flask is this?
-
IN MEMORIAM
Ludwig
I came across a new statue of a young woman reading in a secluded corner of the garden. I believe the Marquis commissioned it as a memorial to his sister. The Queen will appreciate his efforts if we show her the monument.
De Bertrand spared no expense on this monument - it’s a delicate work made of expensive materials. The Marquis confirmed that the statue was erected in memory of his sister in the spot where Matilda liked to read.
-
FLOWERS FOR HIS SISTER
Valerie
Salem will tell Matilda’s angry ghost that Lawrence is truly repentant if she believes it herself. Have you seen the bouquets here? They speak of his remorse. Find them, and we’ll show them to Her Dark Majesty.
Thank you so much for helping me find the bouquets! I once read that pink carnations symbolize an apology and a promise that nothing will be forgotten. Lawrence used them to decorate the place; it’s quite touching.
-
BITTER TEARS
Shaad
Her Dark Majesty should know that the Marquis de Bertrand regularly shed tears in memory of his sister. I saw him with an almost full lacrymatory. Find this proof of grief for me.
Thank you for finding the filled lacrymatory. The Marquis followed the custom of collecting tears to pour on the grave, but few observe this mourning ritual as sincerely as he does.
-
PROOF OF GRIEF
Salem
The ubiquitous vampires have already whispered to me about the fatal engagement. I don’t condemn Matilda for her anger, but I will talk to her if Lawrence is truly remorseful. Is there any proof?
Lawrence claims to mourn his sister night and day? Yes, the candles by Matilda’s portrait are melted, but is it not because her raging spirit keeps him awake? I need something more convincing.
-
THE CRIME’S TRACE
Martha
The tincture of blockheader can indeed cause temporary confusion. Also, blockheader’s particles are very long-lasting. I can determine if it was present in the glass if you bring me some artifacts.
Your artifacts have enhanced my revealing spell, illuminating the ominous potion particles in the musician’s glass. It is definitively blockheader, but the dosage was lethal. This indicates that Lawrence is the poisoner!
-
A SNEAKY MOVE
Lawrence de Bertrand
Then I said I’d allow her to marry the vagabond musician and arranged their engagement. Oh, you should have seen the ring that beggar brought Matilda! You can find it and see for yourself.
This wretched travesty of an engagement ring! But I kept quiet, for the engagement was really meant for Matilda to reject her suitor herself. I had a plan to make it happen.
-
IN A GOLDEN CAGE
Lawrence de Bertrand
I confess that I locked Matilda in her chambers. I hoped she’d come to her senses, but she was stubborn and threatened to starve herself. Then she made preparations to escape. Here’s the proof.
I noticed the tied sheets in time to prevent her escape. But I realized I couldn’t change her mind. She had read too many novels and had deluded herself into thinking that love was the most important thing in life.
-
WITHOUT KITH OR KIN
Lawrence de Bertrand
My sister joyfully agreed to introduce me to her beloved. I’d assumed he was an impoverished nobleman, or at least a respectable bourgeois. But I was in for a big shock. Find the musician’s hat.
Matilda’s choice turned out to be an itinerant musician who collected coins in this hat. Yes, her dowry would have given him a comfortable life... But I couldn’t give my sister to a vagabond!
-
A TROUBLING SIGN
Lawrence de Bertrand
Matilda said she’d met her destined one in the apple orchard, and that his gift was more precious to her than that of the wealthy man. Care to know what he gave her? The gift is inside one of the books - look for it.
Yes, these are dried apple blossoms. Obviously, my sister’s chosen one was poor. And you know, for Matilda’s happiness, I was willing to consider such a mésalliance. But things turned out to be much worse...
-
AN EXPENSIVE GIFT
Lawrence de Bertrand
Please don’t think I killed my sister, it’s not true! I loved Matilda. I cared for her, and I found her a good fiancé - a noble and wealthy man. Look at the gift he gave her.
This precious rose is worth a fortune, and it confirms that I found an excellent match for Matilda. But my sister asked me to return the gift because she’d fallen in love with someone else.
-
A REVEALING VISION
Martha
A blurry silhouette of a person has appeared on the surface of the black dew. Oh, a flash of anger has weakened Matilda; she needs more energy to reveal the murderer. Bring me some artifacts.
Now the silhouette is clearer, and the artifacts have illuminated a vial pendant. This must be the main clue...\n Wait, it’s Lawrence - he has the same pendant. He killed his own sister!
-
A GLIMPSE THROUGH THE TWILIGHT
Martha
The mother-of-pearl chalice is filled with the black dew, and the spirit can project onto its surface whatever it wishes to show. But we need a special device to see it. Please find the Eye of Light.
This Eye of Light allows one to see messages left by spirits. You didn’t know you had a third eye? Everyone has one, the tricky part is learning how to use it. But now you are well equipped.
-
SHROUDED IN MYSTERY
Martha
Spirits don’t like to share secrets with strangers, and it would have taken me a long time to gain Matilda’s trust if I hadn’t brought along a fog veil. Please help me unfurl it.
Thank you for helping me unfurl the fog veil and envelop the site of the séance with it. I have long noticed that spirits feel more comfortable under the veil and are more likely to speak openly.
-
THE DANGER ALERT
Martha
Since we don’t know what’s causing Matilda’s anger, it is best to monitor her emotional state, as an angry spirit can be dangerous. Look for some twilight bells: They’ll alert us if there’s any danger.
The chime of these twilight bells is attuned to ethereal vibrations and will help us track the mood of Matilda’s spirit. This will help us communicate and avoid danger.
-
MYSTERIOUS DROPLETS
Martha
Matilda will find it easier to communicate with us if she uses black dew - spirits can project images onto it. Black dew is collected on mourning orchids, so let’s find that flower first.
You have found the most beautiful mourning orchid I’ve ever seen! And most importantly, there is enough black dew on the petals for our special séance. I’ll catch it in the chalice.
-
A SHIMMERING BAIT
Martha
We’ll know exactly what happened to Matilda if her spirit tells us. But the ghost doesn’t want to communicate through the Ouija board, so let’s look for a mother-of-pearl chalice.
You did a great job. This mother-of-pearl chalice attracts spirits with its mysterious shimmer. I’m sure even the angry Matilda wouldn’t mind interacting with it.
-
THE FURIOUS SPIRIT
Lawrence de Bertrand
Casting aside all my prejudices, I tried to summon Matilda’s ghost to find out what she wanted, but the Ouija board suddenly burst into flames. Perhaps you have some kind of protective artifacts?
Your artifacts are working - the flames on the Ouija board have died down. I’ve never dealt with spirits before, so I must have done something wrong. Please help me talk to my sister!
-
A SINISTER PLOT
Lawrence de Bertrand
But death suddenly took my dear sister from me... I’ve forbidden my servants to remove her belongings, so if you look around, you’ll find my sister’s favorite books. She would often read in the garden.
Yes, these are her romance novels. Love stories were Matilda’s favorite... Oh, my sister’s death was a great blow to me. But when she started appearing to me at night, my life became a veritable nightmare.
-
A DELICATE TYPE
Lawrence de Bertrand
I tried my best to care for my sister on my parents’ behalf, buying her the best outfits to go out in public. But Matilda preferred reading and fine embroidery. Please find her work for me.
Thank you for finding my sister’s embroidery. Matilda’s work was distinguished by its elegance, for she saw only beauty around her. I swear, she had everything she needed for an easy, carefree life!
-
ACCURATE ACCOUNTING
Lawrence de Bertrand
I never dabbled in magic, nor did I believe in it. When I inherited the estate, I devoted myself to its management, hardly ever parting from my trusty abacus. But where did it go?
You found my abacus! Oh, I wish I could go back to the time when my greatest concern was to accurately calculate all my income. But that’s not what fate had in store for me.
-
A MEMORIAL STONE
Lawrence de Bertrand
So we’re in the City of Shadows? I have no idea how I got here. But this estate and this garden are definitely mine. I was born here, and my ancestors are buried here. Look, here’s our family tombstone.
As you can see, it’s not that old. Sickness claimed my parents a few years ago, and I became the rightful owner of our family’s fortune and the guardian of my little sister, Matilda.
-
A GENEROUS GUEST
Lawrence de Bertrand
I am being haunted by a ghost. It is a complete and utter nightmare. I can’t sleep at all! I must communicate with this ghost, and I’ll pay generously for the séance. Oh, where’s my purse?
Yes, that’s my purse. Give it to the medium, and I’ll add more if this means getting me rid of this nightmare. I am a rich man, and I own all the land around here. Or rather, I used to. Where am I exactly?
-
BROUGHT BY THE STORM
Detective
On Halloween Eve, a violent storm has brought a mansion with a garden into the City. A man’s voice comes from there, calling out for someone named Matilda. We need to find out who these people are and why they’ve come here.
-
New Level of Mastery
Detective
Do you remember the case of the Borgia’s treasures? I think we have missed some important details. I desperately need to find a new piece of evidence. The item I require is at the %s location, but it will be hard to find. Reach %s level to find the new evidence.
Great! Partner, you have become more and more important to my investigation. With a new rank, you will be able to find new items that were hidden from you previously.
-
A MANSION WITH A SECRET
Detective
I hear a man calling out for a certain Matilda somewhere in this suspicious place. But he’s going to have to talk to me first. Buddy, let’s go find out who has landed in our City this time.
No one is rushing to meet us, so we have time to look around. Hmm, the storm didn’t damage the mansion or the garden, so it looks like the mansion’s owner is the one who caused it. I wonder who he could be.
-
AN UNFAMILIAR VOICE
Adeline Svensson
We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!
The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!
-
A BELATED VISIT
Detective
It seems we’re the last ones to arrive in this bustling neighborhood. I don’t like waiting in line, but we’ll have to if we want to get to the festival. I wonder what attracted so many people here.
Oh, my gut tells me we’re going to have lots of delicious stuff to eat out here. Do you smell that? I don’t know what smells so good, but I’ll find out as soon as I enter the neighborhood.
-
PROTECTED BY THE SERVICE
Kira Woodville
In deciphering the pigeon’s speech, we’ve discovered that the birds very much like to gossip about their caretaker. It’s best that this data be kept private, in case we ever need it. Let’s seal it with some artifacts!
We’ve securely sealed the case with artifacts, and the birds’ gossip about Leon will be protected by the Security Service. And now we’ll add eavesdropping birds to our arsenal. They can serve as witnesses!
-
THE MAIN INTRIGUE
Kira Woodville
Soon we’ll understand what these carrier pigeons like to talk about! I’ve brought a special sound reproducer that can play our spectrogram. It can translate bird speech into human speech! Take a look!
The reproducer you examined will translate pigeon "talk" into words. Actually, it won’t be that literal, but we should be able to get the gist of their meaning. Hmm... do you hear that? It worked!
-
SEEING THE SOUND
Vera
To decipher the carrier pigeons’ speech, I visualized it using a spectrogram, which is a representation of the frequencies and amplitudes of sound. Please study it and give me your opinion.
The spectrogram you studied visualizes sound. One ornithologist has theorized that the frequencies and amplitude of bird speech match the signals that are also present in our language. Let’s have a look!
-
AN UNUSUAL ARCHIVE
Vera
What do pigeons talk about at the Postal Dovecote? We need to create a database of recordings of bird conversations and sort them by date. To do that, I’ve brought a recorder. Can you test it?
Thanks for checking the recorder. It works as it should, and it has an amplifier so you can hear every note of the pigeons’ cooing. It’s a painstaking job, but well worth it!
-
THE BIRD WIRE
Kira Woodville
So how do we understand the language of the Postal Dovecote pigeons? Our next step is to gather samples. To do that, we’ll record the birds’ conversations. I brought a microphone, but where is it? Can you find it?
Well done! What you’re holding is a state-of-the-art, high-sensitivity microphone, so we’ll set it up at the Postal Dovecote and listen to the pigeons. Hopefully, they won’t be offended. We won’t miss a sound!
-
OLD METHODS
Vera
To understand what the pigeons at the Postal Dovecote are gossiping about, we should first go back to the basics, namely a book by the City’s most famous ornithologist. Check it out. Is there anything useful in it?
I knew you were the best researcher! A book explaining the principles of bird communication will give us the right start in deciphering the pigeons’ conversations. The rest is a matter of technique!
-
EMINENT LETTER CARRIERS
Leon
Now my carrier pigeons have so many exercises! Soon there will be even more record-breakers at the Postal Dovecote! Carrier pigeons get special markings on their feathers. We need to refill the stamp! Can I have some artifacts?
Thanks to your artifacts, the record markings on the pigeons’ feathers will last until they change them. But please don’t think that I only value my birds for numbers and records. I’m truly proud of them!
-
CALL OF DUTY
Rayden Storke
We’ve prepared the carrier pigeons for training, but they’re essentially wild birds that fly wherever they want during off-hours. We need to teach them to fly instantly to a call. Do you see that signaler?
This device imitates a pigeon’s call. Leon gave it to me. On a signal, the carrier pigeons will come immediately to receive their assignments.
-
A TOY PREDATOR
Leon
The carrier pigeons need training! A feathered letter carrier may face various dangers, such as birds of prey. So, a carrier pigeon should be able to escape. There’s a hawk figurine here somewhere. Can you find it?
Nice, you’ve found the hawk figurine! It looks like a real predator and also has a voice module for more realism. That will teach my carrier pigeons to fly away as soon as they see danger.
-
POWER IN THE WINGS
Rayden Storke
Leon asked me to train his carrier pigeons, and I take it seriously. Let’s teach the birds to lift weights so they can carry parcels without any problems! How do you like these kettlebells?
You’re right; these are weights, not kettlebells. They’re postal weights for weighing letters, by the way. By lifting them, the pigeons will become stronger and more robust. But I need to make sure to increase their load gradually!
-
STRONGER THAN A WHIRLWIND
Rayden Storke
Training carrier pigeons isn’t easy, but I’ve come up with a way. Birds have to deliver messages on time, even in bad weather, right? So I built them a wind simulator. Want to see it?
I’m glad you approve of my wind simulator. It’ll help the carrier pigeons adapt to bad weather and develop sufficient strength to prevent them from being blown away by wind gusts.
-
MENTAL EXERCISE
Leon
As the Postal Dovecote caretaker, I look after my pigeons, so I think training them would be appropriate. And not just training muscles, but also the mind! Could you hand me that developmental toy?
I got the idea for this mental development toy from the scientist Charles Zaenti. This is how he trains his crow secretary. And my pigeons can be trained using the same technique!
-
WELL-DESERVED RECOGNITION
Ursula Hartley
The exhibit for the bird museum is ready and attracting visitors. Our work hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Ornithologists’ Society sent us an award! We need to polish it to a nice shine. Give me some artifacts!
The shining award from the Ornithologists’ Society now stands in a prominent place. It feels so nice that our museum of outstanding birds was so highly esteemed. And so many people have come to see it, too! There’s no room to swing a pigeon in this crowd.
-
A TIRELESS WORKER
Ursula Hartley
We need another exhibit for the museum! How could we forget that Postal Dovecote curiosity, the woodpecker that took messages by telegraph? Let’s get a sculpture of him!
This sculpture of the woodpecker telegraphist is very realistic. Lots of gawkers flocked to the Postal Dovecote just to see this marvel! I hope this sculpture attracts the same attention.
-
A CHATTY INDIVIDUAL
Leon
The bird museum’s a little short on exhibits, don’t you think? On that note, an ornithologist once taught an owl to talk, and the Postal Dovecote issued a stamp to commemorate that. There was one here somewhere. Can you find it?
Great, you’ve found the talking-owl stamp. It’ll take its place among the museum exhibits. And by the way, the Capuchins once filmed the owl talking. I think I’ll request that tape as well.
-
A BIRD OF MANY TALENTS
Leon
Have you heard of Ms. Gwendolini? She serves as secretary to the scientist Charles Zaenti and is our most famous crow. She can answer the phone! I made an interactive model of her. Will you see if it works?
Great, the interactive crow model works as well as a living crow. It will take its rightful place in our bird museum. Ms. Gwendolini is a bird of many talents. Without her, the exhibit would be incomplete.
-
NOT ONLY PIGEONS
Ursula Hartley
Leon recently managed to train a swallow to carry letters, which is unprecedented! It would be wonderful to commemorate this feat in our bird museum. I ordered a figurine, and it’s arrived just now. Can you find it?
Thank you for finding the carrier-swallow figurine. This will be a graceful decoration in our newly established museum of outstanding birds. I wouldn’t be surprised if the swallow’s ability to learn was affected by the fog.
-
IN SERVICE TO THE CITY
Leon
The first contender for a place in the museum of outstanding birds that we’ll create at the Postal Dovecote is a real hero, a spy pigeon who worked for the Security Service. Do you think this photo is good enough?
Yes, this spy-pigeon photo is great for our bird museum, as most people don’t even know about this hero. Let’s hang the photo here. I picked the perfect spot at the Postal Dovecote just for this exhibit.
-
TOWARD THE UNKNOWN
Vera
We’ll check whether the fog has any thinking ability. If there is anything even remotely resembling brain activity, the device I invented will show it. But we need to start it first. Bring me some artifacts!
My thought meter recorded activity in the fog - electrical impulses, just like those in the human brain. So, perhaps the fog acts consciously! This is a grand discovery!
-
FATHOMING THE UNFATHOMABLE
Vera
I’m curious what the Shadow meant when he talked about the fog’s thoughts. That’s true, we don’t know much about the fog, but to suggest that the fog has a consciousness... How do we find that out?
-
THE ANSWER IS NEAR
Leon
Mr. Black is almost sure of the culprit’s identity. All that remains is to check the photo from the camera that one of the pigeons brought. Can you lend some artifacts to quickly develop the film?
Incredible! A dark silhouette is visible on the negative developed with your artifacts! I can’t see the face, but it’s immediately clear - that’s a very unpleasant fellow. Do you know him? Oh, you saw a similar composite photo in a dossier?
-
IRRETUTABLE PROOF
Mr. Black
Leon’s birds stole a few things that may help us reveal the culprit’s identity. So far the evidence is circumstantial, but what if we can expose the villain by the seal on the unsent letter? Let’s study it!
The seal we’ve just examined looks familiar. It has the monogram M., exactly the same one used by the main suspect in the cases I was talking about. This is a key piece of evidence!
-
ECHOES OF MUSIC
Mr. Black
What else did the pigeons bring back from the culprit’s hideout? There may be clues about the suspect. I have some thoughts on that, but I want to make sure first. Does that amulet look familiar to you? Take a look at it!
This amulet is known to us from the materials of the secret organ case I’ve already mentioned. A certain scientist sealed that strange instrument with this key amulet and it distorted time.
-
DISTORTED TIME
Kira Woodville
Among the things the birds stole from the culprit’s lair are important clues to the perpetrator’s identity. A strange hourglass caught my attention. It seems... wrong. What do you think?
You’re right - the sand in this hourglass is pouring from the bottom up. Our culprit seems to know how to play with time. Hmm... I once received information from colleagues from the Lower City about a similar individual.
-
CONNECTING THE DOTS
Mr. Black
The culprit really made me mad, and I consider it a matter of honor to find out the creep’s identity. To do this, let’s study what the pigeons brought from the perpetrator’s lair. I saw a fragment of a photograph among them. Can you find it?
Great, you’ve found the photo fragment. This image shows either part of a wall or a secret door, and it seems rather familiar to me. Exactly! I saw it in the materials of a classified case.
-
A DISTINCTIVE ITEM
Mr. Black
Luckily, the pigeons turned into kleptomaniacs and stole some clues. Let’s study them, as they could help us identify the culprit. What do you think about this violin-shaped brooch?
I agree with you. This brooch could mean anything - it could be a souvenir, or something stolen... or who knows? Maybe the culprit was a musician in the past. Or maybe he’s just a connoisseur of music.
-
LIGHT IN THE FOG
Leon
Soon my pigeons will set off into the fog to find the captive birds. The stakes are too high, so I want to make sure the fog won’t harm them. Can you charge the anti-fog light with some artifacts?
Great, you’ve charged the light. This is Vera’s invention; it will save my pigeons from the fog. They’ve flown out there many times already, but we have no room for mistakes. Let Mr. Black give me the signal, and I’ll release the birds.
-
HEARING EVIL
Mr. Black
Since we’re sending the pigeons to save their fellow workers anyway, let’s put a wiretap on one to hear what they’re talking about in the thief’s lair. And yes, we’ll also hear if the birds are okay. Can you find a microphone?
You’ve found our best wiretapping microphone. It’s super sensitive, so even a mouse won’t be able to sneak into the culprit’s house without us knowing. Let’s put it in the backpack of one of the pigeons.
-
AN INVISIBLE SHIELD
Leon
My pigeons have to save their fellow birds. There’s no other way. I’m extremely worried, as I could lose them all! Kira said that a protective dome was delivered to the Postal Dovecote. Could you get it?
Thank you for getting the protective dome! As I understand it, this device creates a field that will protect my pigeons from anomalies, some types of weapons, and the influence of energies - in simple terms, "magic."
-
THE LATEST DEVELOPMENT
Kira Woodville
We’ll rescue the captive pigeons with the help of the others. That’s quite a task! I believe the stolen birds are kept in cages. How can our rescue birds open them? Find a lockpick robot.
The robot you found is the Security Service’s latest development. It recognizes locks and opens them using a skeleton key. It’s also very light, so the pigeons can easily deliver it.
-
A SPY WEAPON
Mr. Black
Okay, let’s save Leon’s carrier pigeons. At the same time, we’ll take a look at the culprit’s lair and activities. Let’s give one of the pigeons we’re sending a camera. See if it works.
Excellent - the camera is working. By the way, this is an old development of the Security Service from when pigeons were used to spy. If we fail to rescue the birds, at least we’ll find out where they’re kept.
-
SEARCH FOR THE UNKNOWN
Leon
There’s something that can help us save the missing pigeons. My birds have beacons in case they get lost, but they stopped working - probably because of the fog. Can you find a mini radar?
This is the radar that tracks my birds. If we let loose some pigeons, they’ll fly to the villain’s lair, and this radar will detect the captive birds if I give the pigeons a signal booster. But I don’t have one.
-
A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT
Vera
Confirming that this is a mind-reading device won’t be easy, as we’re missing a power source. I sent for a power station, but I’ll need to set it up. Lend me some artifacts!
Now we have enough power to make the prototype device work. Let’s connect everything and attach the electrodes to someone. Leon, do you volunteer? Think about something intensely!
-
THE COLOR OF OUR THOUGHTS
Leon
I feel ashamed to open old parcels, but we need to figure out why the culprit wants them. My pigeons would love this thing, but there are also some wires. Do you think it’s part of the device?
You’re saying this thing with the colored lights is... What did you call it? A sensor? What do you think it responds to? Vera thinks it reacts to electrical signals from the brain.
-
AN IN-DEPTH STUDY
Mr. Black
Search all the parcels! We can’t miss a single item that the culprit is hunting for! Vera found a bottle with some nasty stuff and claims that it’s important. Do you know what it is?
You’ve examined the bottle and are sure that it’s the slime of a certain type of snail. What’s it for, to use as a conductor for electrical current? What were these scientists doing...?

THE POWER OF THOUGHT
Leon
Let’s see what’s in these old parcels that could possibly interest the culprit. Thanks to the device drawing, I noticed something suspicious. Can you find me some electrodes?
Electrodes - you found them! It’s clear from the drawing that they attach to the head. Vera says they’re used to measure brain activity, thanks to... what was it? Bioelectrical impulses! Very curious!
-
AN ENERGY CONVERTER
Vera
You said that the culprit is interested in old parcels. But what’s hidden in them? Among their contents, I found the items from the drawing - the parts of the device. Take a look at this battery.
You’ve helped me solve the mystery of this battery, which converts energy into impulses similar to those that occur in the human brain. Let’s call it a neural battery. I wonder what it’s for.
-
A MYSTERIOUS MODEL
Mr. Black
What could these old parcels contain that the culprit needs? I’m intrigued. Having examined their contents, I noticed this drawing of some device. Take a look at it.
Any idea what device this represents? Logic tells me it’s the culprit’s target. Kira had to call Vera Light for a consultation while my agents are busy with the bomb.
-
THE SOURCE OF CLUES
Mr. Black
I have a hunch as to where the culprit is hiding. Let’s study the evidence with a device that measures the influence of the fog. Good thing I carry it with me. Do you have any artifacts? Let’s set it up.
Thanks to your artifacts, I fine-tuned the fog meter, and it confirmed my suspicions! The readings are off the charts, which means the clues were in a zone located deep in the fog. How did these birds end up there?
-
A TOOL OF THE PAST
Kira Woodville
We need a clue as to where to look for the culprit’s lair. For this, let’s study the objects brought by the pigeons over the past week. An old screwdriver with a strange coating caught my attention. Take a look!
Do you think these are traces of fog corrosion on the screwdriver? It must have been stuck in the fog for a long time! It’s an old-style tool, like the ones lamplighters used back in Carlos’s youth.
-
A HIDDEN TREASURE
Mr. Black
If the culprit thought I was spying, we’ll find out where to look for them by examining the pigeon’s stolen items. See this unique artifact?
You’re right - this artifact is a rare treasure from the Defenders’ times. I have only seen one like this, and that was in an archived sketch! The pigeons must’ve found it in the fog, as there are many curiosities hidden there.
-
A USEFUL ACCESSORY
Leon
Could these items indicate where they originated? One of them seems particularly strange to me. Now I know why... find the signal whistle.
Great, you found the signal whistle. Scavengers use these whistles to avoid getting lost in the fog. How do I know? I saw that Vera has one. She often uses pigeon post.
-
LIGHT IN THE FOG
Mr. Black
I’m sure that examining the things brought by the pigeons will help us learn where they’ve been lately. This thing with the crystal caught my attention. What do you think it is?
I agree - this crystal is part of an anti-fog lamp if the birds stole it from the culprit in the fog. Maybe the culprit forays into or lives in the fog and is possibly a scavenger?
-
GHOSTLY FLORA
Kira Woodville
The first item to catch my eye among the things the pigeons brought back was a strange plant. It could’ve grown in the area where the culprit lives. What can you tell me about its origin?
Having examined the shoot brought back by Leon’s pigeons, you confirmed my suspicions that it’s from the fog. Did the bird fly to the fog and manage to return? Or did it steal it from the culprit?

A GREAT ASSET
Leon
The Postal Dovecote is famous throughout the City for our perfectly trained birds. We’ve even received a memorial plaque. Can you help clean it with some artifacts? It’s overgrown with moss now.
This plaque was installed on the Postal Dovecote’s wall to pay tribute to its carrier pigeons for their work discipline and valuable service to the City! Do you still think that the birds just "flew away"?
-
LIKE THE WIND
Leon
Lady, the missing bird, would have returned here if someone hadn’t caught her. She’s the fastest carrier pigeon in the City. Have you heard of her? Look at her trophy!
Lady received the Fastest-Bird Trophy from the Mayor himself! You can always rely on her if the message is urgent, as Lady always strives to get home as quickly as possible.
-
A LITTLE HERO
Leon
My pigeons must’ve been captured by the scoundrel who sent the fog bomb. After all, it’s in their nature to return to their nest. Some pigeons show unprecedented courage in doing so. See that medal?
This medal was awarded to Emerald, the pride of our Postal Dovecote! In the early days of the Security Service, agents used carrier pigeons to send secret information! Did you know that?
-
THE CALL OF A DISTANT HOME
Leon
You have to believe me - my birds are definitely in danger! If they weren’t prisoners of some unscrupulous villain, they would surely come back. Here, look at Marshmallow’s diploma!
Marshmallow received this diploma for the longest distance ever flown by a carrier pigeon. Moreover, he flew in a thunderstorm and lost neither his way nor the letter entrusted to him!
-
A RESPONSIBLE WORKER
Leon
The missing pigeons were stolen, I’m sure of it. I trained them myself to return home. They couldn’t have gotten lost. Take Peggy, for example. Look at her award sash!
This award sash was given to Peggy, one of the missing pigeons, by grateful citizens for delivering a record number of letters. She made ten thousand flights and never got lost!
-
AN EXCELLENT STUDENT
Leon
My birds couldn’t just get lost or fail to return home. I’ll explain why. There are special marks here somewhere that I made for one of my favorites for banding day. Can you find them?
The award bands you found belonged to Apple the pigeon, one of my best students. He earned them for never getting lost! He grew out of them later, though...
-
REPUTATION AT STAKE
Mr. Black
Someone’s threatened the City with a bomb and accused me of espionage. I’ll find the culprit, even if I have to interrogate every pigeon at the Postal Dovecote. I’ll write all the details down in the Diary.
-
New Level of Mastery
-
THE AVIAN ABODE
Mr. Black
I take it we’re here. Why do some people still bother sending letters by pigeon? Enter carefully. Don’t forget there may be a real bomb in here!
That’s quite a smell, something like musty paper and feathers! Look, the pigeons are scurrying around freely - I don’t see a single cage. Shoo! I’m interested in the bomb. Where is it?
-
A VESTIGE OF THE PAST
Leon
We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!
The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!

A RELIABLE LANDMARK
Rayden Storke
With a mysterious look, the Luxmores handed me a lighthouse-shaped nightlight and said it wasn’t working. That’s actually Light’s job, but I’ll try to fix it while I’m at it. Can you lend me some artifacts?
Thank you. It didn’t take me long to fix the night-lighthouse with your artifacts. But Emma and Robert didn’t want it back. They said it was to help me remember the way to them. Okay, I guess I’ll stop by for lunch...
-
A FAMILY
Rayden Storke
Most likely, my grandfather is Edward Storke, one of the Luxmores who left the family and changed his last name to marry my grandmother Clarissa. Now I have a great-niece and a great-nephew.
-
A FLIGHT OF FANCY
Rayden Storke
It all sounds like the truth - a Luxmore married a singer, got banished, changed his last name... But there’s no proof! Oh, there’s something glinting between the stage planks. Give me some artifacts, I’ll try to get it out.
The artifacts shone beautifully, and with their help I easily pulled out the stuck item - a heart pendant. It’s fine workmanship, a true symbol of love. Could this be the proof?
