Hidden City Walkthrough

Quest

These are the story/quests featured in Hidden City. There is a vast number of stories, and please note that the order and categories are unorganized, so it might be a bit difficult to navigate. Thank you for your understanding.

  • DANGEROUS ROOM

    Detective

All sorts of devilry happens at the Manor, but its source has always been the Mistress herself. If you see some suspicious magical artifact, you’d better not touch it so as not to bring some kind of curse upon yourself. The Mistress might have disappeared because of such a thing.

There are things scattered all over the place in the Mistress’s personal chamber. There are also visible signs of a struggle. It looks like there was an uninvited guest here at night after all, or maybe a few. But the criminals couldn’t have broken in without a trace. We need to check everything again down to the smallest detail!

  • Doll Story

    Martha

The doll came to life and fulfilled Sarah’s wish. The Puppeteer made a tragic mistake and Sarah’s soul was transferred into the doll. In despair, the Puppeteer set his workshop on fire and fled the City. The Mayor left the doll in the Yard of Forgotten Toys encased in glass in the hope that he would someday find a way to save his daughter. It’s a tragic story, but maybe that’s not the end?

  • The Living Doll

    Mayor

I discovered that my beloved daughter’s soul is trapped inside a doll. Too bad I couldn’t find a way to take it back out. I brought the doll to the Puppeteer in the Yard of Forgotten Toys and left it under a glass covering. You can see it there, but you’ll need magic and artifacts from the City.

Every year I come to the Yard of Forgotten Toys on Sarah’s birthday so I can spend some time with my daughter. But this doll... It stares at me with such sadness. I hope that one day the Puppeteer will return to help me liberate Sarah’s soul from its toy prison.

  • A Repentant Letter

    Mayor

The Puppeteer burned down his studio and skipped town. No one knew why or for what reason. That same day I got a package from him. It’s somewhere in the yard, please be so kind as to bring it to me.

The package contained a book with a mechanical covering. Inside were the Puppeteer’s notes on his attempts to create a living doll and his idea of animating it using Sarah’s own desires. He repented and confessed that my daughter’s soul is now in the doll’s body.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Burn Everything

    Martha

While investigating the disappearance of the Mayor’s daughter, we found out that something terrible happened. The Crystal of Desires transferred Sarah’s soul into the doll. How did the Puppeteer plan to fix things? Let’s have a look through the yard, I’m sure we’ll find the key there.

Give that sinister thing here. My inner gaze is seeing dolls on fire! It looks like Sarah’s doll was just the first - the Puppeteer made other toys and also put shards of the crystal inside them so that they could make children’s wishes come true. But he knew how dangerous a wish and its consequences could be. In order to avoid any more tragedies, he tried to burn them all in his studio!

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Dreams Come True

    Detective

The Mayor’s daughter disappeared after she was given a doll that granted wishes. The craftsman who created it was shaken to the core and hid away from everyone in his studio. Why? What was he researching? I bet we’ll find the answers near his house in the Yard of Forgotten Toys.

You found the remains of the complex device. Nearby was a note: "The doll granted Sarah’s wish and came alive, but the crystal couldn’t create a soul to implant in the doll. Instead, it took Sarah’s soul. It’s terrible! My doll is the reason behind this tragedy! I need to fix this!"

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Shut Off From the World

    Martha

I remember that after the Mayor’s daughter disappeared, everyone in the City got really worked up. The Puppeteer shut himself off from the world and stayed locked away in his studio. Thanks to a Crafty Lock, no one could get inside. You don’t believe me? Find the lock and see for yourself.

You see how complicated this lock is? The Puppeteer obviously didn’t want to be bothered. But why? What was he doing behind closed doors?

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Missing Girl

    Mayor

The morning after her birthday my little girl disappeared. All I found in her room was the doll. It even felt like she was looking at me, but that was probably just from the grief. I looked for my Sarah everywhere, turned the City inside out and posted missing person signs. One of them is still hanging on the tree in the yard. Bring it to me.

Yes of course, that’s my missing person sign for Sarah. I offered up a huge reward for any information on her, but it was all in vain.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Fantasy Come to Life

    Martha

The Puppeteer was attempting to create a doll that was entirely human-like. He forced his creations to speak, be sad and dance, but every doll only knew that one thing. He couldn’t manage to reach his goal to create a living doll. If you want to discover if the Puppeteer was able to create this living doll, you’ll need all of his creations and a little extra magic.

Look, a doll is materialising out of the fog of the past. I feel like it’s looking at me and understanding what I’m saying. Oh! There’s a page from the Puppeteer’s diary pinned to its dress.

  • Body Language

    Huntress

As a child I loved to dance, and my parents once gave me a Ballerina Doll. She spun around on her base, and it was really inspiring to me. I bet the Puppeteer also made ballerinas that danced and fluttered like butterflies. Let’s find one like that in the yard.

Oh! A Ballerina Doll that does different dances. I could watch its practised, light-as-a-feather steps for hours! And this note from the Puppeteer might be of interest to you: "I not only taught the doll how to move, I forced her to dance! But, alas, it’s all mechanics, none of it is real..."

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Words, Words

    Cardsharp

You’re on the lookout for unique dolls and you didn’t even call the old Cardsharp? Well I for one just searched the archives and learned that the Puppeteer didn’t just make violinists and beauties. He also had a doll that could speak! Let’s go find it!

There it is, the Talking Doll! And what’s this paper here, one of the Puppeteer’s notes? "I found out how to make dolls speak, but they only repeat the last words they hear! Why can’t I get this right?"

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Laughter and Tears

    Valerie

I heard you’re looking for super-dolls that the genius craftsman made. I’m in! Onwards, let’s search the yard!

We found the doll, but it’s so gloomy... What does this note have to say? The master Puppeteer writes: "Real people can be both happy and sad, but this doll is always sad. Another failure."

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Maestro’s Game

    Isabelle

I heard you need help looking for the genius Puppeteer’s dolls. I’m ready. Let’s hurry up and go to the Yard of Forgotten Toys.

What a wonderful Violinist Doll... I wouldn’t mind having one myself! Look, there’s a page from the Puppeteer’s diary here too: "Talents are an important human quality, so I created a doll that is capable of playing the most complicated symphonies. But it can’t feel or improvise... Again, not what I need..."

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Beauty Will Save the World

    Detective

The Mayor decided to give his daughter a living doll? That’s impossible! We must figure out how the Puppeteer planned on creating a living doll. Let’s look around in the Yard of Forgotten Toys for other dolls he made. I’m sure they’ll reveal his secrets. I saw one of them near the entrance to the house. Bring it here, please.

What a beautiful doll! And it looks so real! Although, that’s where its similarity with people stops. The Puppeteer left some notes here too: "External beauty is good, but how can I capture the charm and appeal of a real person?"

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Mechanical Wonder

    Mayor

Finally, I came up with a gift that would definitely fill my Sarah with amazement! I needed a living doll! Somehow I got my hands on a surprising little business card. It was in the shape of a mechanical fan and had info on a certain Puppeteer. I understood at once that he was the only one that could create what I needed. I bet if you combine all the gifts you found and added some City magic, you’d be able to get that fan-like business card.

Oh, you did it! You received the mechanical fan. It’s truly a work of art! If that Puppeteer has business cards like that, imagine what kind of toys he could make! So I decided that I could trust him to make a doll for Sarah.

  • Mayoral Games

    Mayor

I simply couldn’t manage to pick out a gift worthy of my Sarah. She deserved the very best, so I decided to give her a city. A toy one, of course. Go find this Toy City, it was somewhere in the yard.

You brought me the Toy City! But, alas, it too proved not enough. Once, when I was watching Sarah play with her dolls, I heard her say, "It’s too bad that you don’t understand me and can never say anything back." It was in that moment that I realised what I could get to truly surprise my little girl.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Wild Imagination

    Mayor

I wanted to surprise my little girl so badly on her birthday that I even ordered an exotic present: a lynx in a gold and amethyst collar. I have no idea how, but this animal is still bounding about in the Yard of Forgotten Toys. I hope you’ll be lucky enough to catch it.

You caught the lynx! Your talents will never cease to amaze me. However, this animal also couldn’t pass as an acceptable gift. Despite being domesticated, it was still a wild animal that could injure a child.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Night-time Observations

    Mayor

At night I would often stare up at the stars and think over what I could get to amaze my little Sarah. Then it dawned on me: get her a Telescope! My baby girl would be able to observe the heavens and admire how they sparkled. Bring me the Telescope, I saw it near the Puppeteer’s house.

There’s the Telescope I planned to give my daughter. And yet, this gift didn’t work either. As Sarah was only seven years old, a child of that age should be asleep at night, not gazing up at the sky.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Table Tracks

    Mayor

Instead of a dress I decided to give Sarah a Toy Trainset for her birthday. I think I saw it near the tree in the Yard of Forgotten Toys. Please, be so kind as to bring it to me.

I see you’ve brought me the Toy Trainset. Was it heavy? Of course it was - it was meant for an enormous dining table. An excellent gift, but my Sarah was a delicate and fragile little girl. I decided that maybe she wouldn’t like a trainset.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Fit for a Princess

    Mayor

You tracked down the dress for Sarah. Look at the fine lacework and rich detailing! I really tried to get only the best for my daughter. However, when I saw the dress, I realised that it didn’t show Sarah’s beauty or charm well enough. I was forced to look for another gift.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Welcome!

    Martha

So, the items from the child’s party are all here. But I still don’t see an invitation to the event anywhere around. Let’s add a little City magic, then it’ll be sure to turn up.

What a cool invitation - embossed and with gold accents! Truly fit for a queen. What does it say there? "The Mayor’s family has the honour of inviting you to a glorious celebration of Sarah’s seventh year. Get ready for a surprise: something one-of-a-kind and unforgettable awaits you." Hmm, what was the Mayor cooking up for his daughter’s party? Let’s go ask him.

  • An Elegant Accessory

    Valerie

What’s a birthday party without presents? Exactly - it isn’t one! And every gift needs a cool package. A pretty box wrapped up in an enormous Silk Bow is nothing short of spectacular. Bring it here, please.

What an awesome bow... You can wrap an elephant in it! What kind of gift did the Mayor have in store for his daughter?

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Game and a Treat

    Conductor

Nuts are the best treat at any birthday party, and nutcrackers are a hilarious toy for the little ones. You can use it as a doll and a way to crack nuts. I think I saw a Nutcracker in the yard. Go and find it.

Here’s the Nutcracker, brand new without ever having cracked a single nut. Maybe I’ll keep it for a day or two if the Mayor doesn’t mind?

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Ooops!

    Juliette

The Mayor’s grand birthday bash at that time would definitely have had outdoor games. Stick horses were popular back then with boys, and girls were crazy about jump ropes. Look for them, please.

You found a Stick Horse and Jump Rope! Children absolutely adore these things. No birthday party is complete without them.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • An Explosion of Colour

    Valerie

You’re looking for things from a birthday celebration. I love it! I definitely saw a Party Popper in the yard somewhere. Can you find it?

Wow, look at this Party Popper! It’ll cover you in confetti if you set it off!

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Chocolate Masterpiece

    Mayor

You want to know why I visit the Yard of Forgotten Toys every year on the same day? It’s the day we celebrate my daughter Sarah’s birthday. I’ll share my sad tale with you if you bring me some items from Sarah’s last party. Start with her Birthday Cake with candles. It’s somewhere under the tree.

Yes, of course that’s it! Chocolate cake with whipped cream - Sarah’s absolute favourite.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • An Old Friend

    Martha

You found five items that belonged to the secret visitor of the Yard of Forgotten Toys. Who could access the yard when the entrance was blocked off to everyone else? I think I can discover the name of this person. Bring over a couple of the City artifacts and lay out what you’ve found next to them.

Look what we got after the ritual! It’s the Mayoral Chain with the City’s coat of arms! I can’t even believe that the mysterious visitor is the Mayor! Although... I often used to see him around the Yard of Forgotten Toys, but I thought he was just strolling around, checking to see if everything was alright. If the Mayor can get into the yard without any trouble, that must mean that he’s connected with this place. But how?

  • Classic Etiquette

    Valerie

I saw a Top Hat in a pile of toys next to a mechanical harlequin. It stared at me with a frightening, wide-open, beady-eyed stare that I couldn’t even approach it. Bring me the Top Hat, I think it’ll tell us a lot about its owner.

Awesome! You brought the Top Hat! I think the mysterious visitor is an older gentleman. This item, as expensive and beautiful as it is, can’t exactly pass as fashionable.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Status Accessory

    Detective

At the entrance to the house I saw a Neck Scarf, but the wind came and blew it away. Could you please find it. I think it’s something else that belongs to our mystery man.

Good thing you found this Neck Scarf. Look here! There’s a monogram embroidered on it. I guess the Yard of Forgotten Toy’s mysterious guest is not only wealthy, but from a well-known family as well.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • A Forgetful Gentleman

    Detective

I walked around the yard and noticed a golden Umbrella Cane under a tree among the toys. It seems to be another item belonging to our mystery man. Bring it here, please.

I was right, this Umbrella Cane is definitely golden. That means the secret visitor is wealthy.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • An Absentminded Burglar

    Detective

So, you have new searches? I also want to know which resident is coming into the closed Yard of Forgotten Toys. What if he gets it into his head to steal something next time he goes into someone else’s home?

You found a Snuffbox. That’s useful. I bet that means the mysterious visitor is a man.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Open for One

    Valerie

The Yard of Forgotten Toys is in a state of squalor. But that makes sense, seeing as no one’s been in here for years. But what’s this? Fresh tracks! That means someone still comes here! Let’s find out who the lucky fellow is. Look around, perhaps he left something here.

So what did you find? The insignia of a Harvard grad? That probably won’t help us find out the identity of the mysterious visitor. It could belong to any one of the residents of the City of Shadows.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Doll Story

    Mayor

In the City there once lived a famous Puppeteer; but a fire broke out in his workshop. The Puppeteer disappeared and the yard around his house became filled with broken toys. For a long time it was impossible to enter the Yard of Forgotten Toys. Recently residents of the City have been having nightmares about this place and the entrance to the Yard was discovered to have been reopened. Maybe it’s a trap? Discover the secrets of the Yard of Forgotten Toys and receive a unique reward.

  • ABANDONED BY THE CREATOR

    Martha

We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!

The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Paying for the Past

    Martha

The ghosts of the men disappeared from the mirror when we found out about their tragic fates. The Mistress returned, but she didn’t have time to say anything but a few words before she once again found herself in the mirror. It’s getting dark behind her as her eyes fill with tears. What did the Mistress try to explain and who needs to silence her? You can figure this out in the next part of the story.

  • Mysterious Family Coats of Arms

    Detective

Well, it turns out that the ghosts in the mirror are all wealthy and famous noblemen. What’s more, every single one of them disappeared right after their weddings. Don’t you find that interesting? I also noticed that this jewelry box bears the same coat of arms as the ghosts’, but it’s locked, and I can’t find the keyhole. It seems to have been locked with some kind of powerful magic.

Look, there’s a marriage certificate inside the box. Unbelievable! Every one of these rich aristocrats was married to the Mistress! There’s even a newspaper clipping here, look what it says.

  • Luxury and Dignity

    Cardsharp

Every coat of arms we find opens up the past of one of the ghosts from the mirror-world. Unfortunately, we still don’t know what the Mistress of the Manor has got to do with any of this. Maybe we’ll have more luck with the last coat of arms? Search for something yellow and light blue.

Ooo! That’s a Diamond Brooch with a coat of arms! It belonged to the staggeringly wealthy Gertzog Bollerset. And why doesn’t it surprise me that he disappeared quickly after his wedding? Fine, fine, take your brooch!

    Bedroom

  • Family Relics

    Cardsharp

I want to help look for these family valuables too. What if something really amazing crops up? Lets look for something with a green coat of arms and the image of deer. One of the ghosts in the mirror had those exacts marks on him.

What’s that? Oh, it’s a little knickknack - a Family Snuffbox belonging to Marquis de Breze. There isn’t much known about him: he was rich, distinguished, and disappeared six months after his wedding.

    Bedroom

  • Golden Precision

    Detective

We must find out which souls in particular can’t find peace because of the Mistress of the Manor. We can find a clue in the ghosts’ pasts. Find a men’s accessory with a yellow coat of arms framed in crimson oak leaves.

You found the Gold Pocket Watch with a coat of arms from Count Arlon so fast! The archives in City Hall say that the count was unique and close with the royal German court. He disappeared mysteriously while travelling with his young wife.

    Bedroom

  • The Stamp of Success

    Detective

Who are these rich gentlemen in the mirror, and why are they holding the Mistress hostage? Look for a men’s accessory with a red and blue coat of arms in the bedroom.

Excellent, this is the Ring with a Coat of Arms from Viscount von Brugent. According to the archives, he was a man of considerable means and disappeared without a trace a couple months after he was married.

    Bedroom

  • Notes from the Past

    Detective

The ghosts who are holding the Mistress captive have taken on a definite shape. Now certain parts of their coats of arms can be seen on their clothing. I see a lot of stuff in this bedroom with aristocratic symbols on it. We need to find the items with the same markings that match the ghosts. That can hopefully shed some light on where they came from and what their relationship is to the Mistress. The first coat of arms is red with yellow stripes. Onwards, to the search!

You found the gold-inlayed notepad with a red and yellow coat of arms from Chevalier di Bris. After rummaging through City Hall, I found out that this chevalier was very wealthy. He disappeared without a trace a month after his wedding.

    Bedroom

  • Advice and Love!

    Martha

So, Erzsébet von Linderle’s magic worked! Men have been losing their heads over the Mistress for two centuries already! Now we just have to figure out who was the first to fall victim to the amorous web she weaved. But we won’t get far without magic from the City.

I can see the past clearly: when at a ball, men wouldn’t leave her alone. There was serious competition for her hand and heart. The rich Baron de Levele proposed and got so scrambled from his love and obsession that he would do anything to have her. The girl married him and became a Baroness and Mistress of his family manor. The young Mistress’s wish of reclaiming her status and fortune came true! But at what cost?

  • Ends Justify the Means

    Martha

Judging by the letter we found, the Mistress agreed to let her grandmother use a love potion on her without fear of the consequences. Find the love artifact so we can prove that the ritual took place.

Woah, what a love artifact! A Glass Heart filled with blood. I don’t even want to think about whose it is. As you can see, Erzsébet von Linderle’s spells are so strong they’ve lasted for over two centuries. Yeah, the Mistress’s grandmother knew her way around the magical arts!

    Bedroom

  • A Helpful Idea

    Detective

We don’t have any hard evidence that the Mistress used black magic for her own gain, but the ghosts holding her captive seem to be pretty sure of it. I bet that if you look hard enough, you’ll find the Mistress’s written agreement to perform the love spell.

You found it? Well, even without it I could see what was happening here. The Mistress wrote to her grandmother: "Please cast a love spell on me, grandmother! I’m not scared of the consequences. After everything I’ve gone through, I don’t need a happy family. And the men - let them suffer! It’s for the best."

    Bedroom

  • A Steep Price

    Martha

The Mistress of the Manor would do anything to make her wish come true. What happened today was payback for the mistakes of her youth. My guess is that grandma Erzsébet warned her granddaughter about the danger of black magic and its horrifying consequences. Look for the witch’s response.

You managed to find the letter. Here’s what Erzsébet said: "Dear, I can cast a love spell on you, but a marriage based on magic won’t ever make you or him happy. What’s more, every new passion will sap more and more joy from your life."

    Bedroom

  • Red and Black

    Martha

Erzsébet von Linderle, the Mistress’s grandmother, was a powerful witch who practiced black magic. These types of spells are all done with blood, be it from the witch herself, a victim or their target. Look for a ceremonial knife or dagger.

Here it is, a Ceremonial Dagger, hard evidence that the Mistress is involved with blood spells. There’s even a letter here about her wish to become so attractive that every man would pine for her hand in marriage. A dangerous wish let me tell you.

    Bedroom

  • Small Family Secret

    Martha

Who could’ve doubted! An amulet with a woman’s profile and magic symbols. There’s an engraving on the lid: "To my beloved granddaughter from Erzsébet von Linderle. 1888." Her grandmother was a powerful witch. The Mistress probably went to her for help.

    Bedroom

  • Bitter Disappointment

    Valerie

We figured out that the Mistress went to balls to look for a rich husband; but were her efforts successful? Lets put everything we found together, add a little magic and find out!

Look what our ritual gave us: it’s a Carnet de Bal - the little cards from a ball where the evening’s dance partners were recorded. But they’re all empty. Well-to-do grooms weren’t lining up for the young Mistress; no one invited her for a single dance at the balls. Was she really that unattractive? Poor girl. It’s hard to believe this is the same Mistress of the Manor.

  • Natural Info

    Martha

How is it that whilst hopping from ball to ball the Mistress, despite dressing the part, hardly danced? Something was up with her. We have to find the missing evidence.

That was worth the wait. You found a cracked mirror. The Mistress was wrong not throwing it away; it still stores all of her pain and despair. Everything is clear to me now - as a young woman the Mistress of the Manor was, to put it lightly, not a natural beauty.

    Bedroom

  • A Serious Bet

    Martha

We’re learning some interesting details about the Mistress’s life. She went to as many balls as she could, but hardly ever danced. Maybe she couldn’t find the right dress? Look around, I’m sure you’ll find the young Mistress’s Ball Gown in the bedroom somewhere.

Well, here it is. As far as I know, this Victorian gown would’ve cost a pretty penny back in the day. How could the Mistress have afforded it? And again I’m seeing the image of the family brooch... It looks like the Mistress sold her last precious item to dress halfway decent.

    Bedroom

  • Dances, Dances and More Dances!

    Valerie

I can see the Mistress’s past now: a couple dancing the waltz, flirting, writing notes to each other on scraps of paper. If the Mistress was really running this circuit, she had to have a pair of Dancing Slippers. After all, it was almost impossible not to dance at a ball. Go look for those slippers!

A pair of Dancing Slippers - just what she needed to dance in. Look, the soles are practically new. These slippers were hardly used. How’s that possible?

    Bedroom

  • Grandiose Ideas

    Cardsharp

I want to explore the Mistress’s past too! What did you learn? The Mistress was planning on getting married? Well, where better to land a rich husband than at an extravagant ball? You can probably find a schedule of society events from that time around here somewhere.

Wow, look! A full Ball Schedule from 1865. The Mistress kept it in good condition. The most prestigious ones are underlined - looks like this is how she marked the ones that she planned to attend.

    Bedroom

  • One Chance

    Juliette

They’ve captured my mistress and are holding her captive in the mirror-world. How did she make those spirits so mad? In her youth she had to live in real poverty. I think she decided to reclaim her place in society in one simple way - by marrying a rich man. Look for some little trifles around here that might reflect her dreams of getting married.

Just as I thought. You found a music box with a bride and groom dancing on the lid. Inside the box there’s a note: "Soon the day will come when I’ll be the bride!". Looky here, there’s even a list of grooms. My mistress has always been a practical one, mon ami!

    Bedroom

  • Ambitious Dreams

    Juliette

If we want to free the Mistress from her ghostly captivity, we need to discover how she fell out of their favour. What if we put everything we’ve found from her past together and surround it with City artifacts? I’m sure we’ll find out something important about the Mistress of the Manor!

After the ritual an old, expensive brooch materialised on the table. Hmm, there’s a note stuck to it. "I’ll reclaim my pride and riches no matter what they’ve become!". This brooch is the last valuable object the Mistress kept as a reminder of her desires.

  • True Poverty

    Juliette

If they expelled the Mistress from a prestigious school, she must’ve been pretty bitter. Her family didn’t have a cent left. I’ve noticed that the Mistress still keeps an old dress around... Judging by the style - it’s very old. Could it really be hers? We need to find it so we can look it over.

Here’s the old-fashioned dress. In reality, it’s not that ugly. The size fits the Mistress too, and it smells like her favourite perfume. Let me have another look. It’s been fixed and restitched so many times. The mark of true poverty.

    Bedroom

  • The Sad Aftermath

    Detective

We’re missing a crucial detail for our investigation. Did the Mistress ever receive any kind of education? As the daughter of a noble family it’s entirely possible that she studied at an elite institute. Look for any kind of document from a college or lyceum where the Mistress might have studied.

Not bad. You managed to find a School Insignia. It’s from a very prestigious school; even children from the royal family studied there. Above the insignia there’s a stamp that says, "Expelled". They did that when parents couldn’t pay for their children’s schooling anymore. How sad.

    Bedroom

  • A Tragic Turn of Events

    Cardsharp

We found a charred shred of fabric with the Mistress’s family coat of arms. If their boats all burned to the ground, then they definitely fell into dire straits - me of all people should know that. Look for loan certificates, bills of sale, and finally a "For Sale" Sign from the house.

I was right! The sign you found tells us that the Mistress’s parents were forced into putting their house up for sale due to their difficult financial situation.

    Bedroom

  • Aristocratic Roots

    Martha

Seriously, why are you investigating the Mistress’s kidnapping? I wonder what’s lurking in her past. Where did all these aristocratic habits come from? Look for a coat of arms or family monogram.

Hmm, you found a burnt shred of fabric with an embroidered coat of arms? What a heavy aura this thing has! It contains boats on fire, so the family must’ve hit hard times. This shred of material is the only property that survived the ship fire.

    Bedroom

  • Golden Times

    Detective

If we want to learn about the Mistress of the Manor’s past, we should look at her family photos. They can tell us about her childhood and who her parents were. Look for an old Family Photo, there’s bound to be one around here somewhere.

You found a Family Photo of the Mistress dated 1856. Look... a little girl in a sailor’s outfit next to her happy parents. They’re at a port in front of a fleet of ships. They’re dressed rather wealthily. On the back it says "Nord Company - Nord Ost. Our life’s work."

  • An Attack of Spirits

    Detective

All the evidence we found shows that there was a struggle in the bedroom, but who was the Mistress fighting so desperately against? Marta told me of a simple ritual - if we gather all the evidence together and surround it with City artifacts, then we can see what happened in the bedroom.

Woah! As soon as we performed the ritual, these silhouettes came alive in the bedroom mirror. The Mistress is surrounded by the ghosts of men; she’s scared and trying to escape. I can tell we’re hot on the trail of a secret, I’ll be a detective yet!

  • Negligee

    Juliette

What was the Mistress wearing yesterday? In the evening she had on her Silk Nightgown. Then in the morning she always leaves it on the bed. Take a look around, it’s bound to be in here somewhere.

You found the nightgown crumpled up under the bed? That means it was already on the bed when she was attacked.

    Bedroom

  • Deceitful Softness

    Juliette

I don’t see the Mistress’s Embroidered Pillow anywhere! Oh god! Maybe they suffocated her with it and then took it so as not to leave any evidence! Find the pillow, please; my heart is heavy thinking it’s gone.

You found the Embroidered Pillow, but it’s torn to pieces! What’s with this insane beast?

    Bedroom

  • The Favourite Comb

    Juliette

Yesterday night, before bed, I was combing the Mistress’s hair with an old, hand-made comb like I always do; but today, after everything that happened, I don’t see it on her vanity table. Monsieur, please find it.

You found the Old Comb in a far corner of the room? Strange... Why would the Mistress throw her things about like that?

    Bedroom

  • The Ruined Candleholder

    Juliette

The Mistress always used to keep a Carved Candleholder by the headboard in her room, but now it’s gone. Could it really have disappeared along with her? Try and find it, I’m sure it’s here somewhere.

You found the Carved Candleholder, but it’s all scratched up. It’s like it was torn from an animal’s claws!

    Bedroom

  • A Complete Mess

    Detective

It only takes one look to see that there was a struggle in her bedroom before the Mistress disappeared. Everything is strewn about like a tornado tore through here. We have to find some evidence in this mess that can help us figure out what went down. Julie says she left the Mistress with a perfume flask in her hands. Look for that.

So you found the Perfume Flask, but it’s broken! Do you think the Mistress could have dropped it by accident?

    Bedroom

  • Paying for the Past

    Mayor

The Mistress of the Manor has mysteriously disappeared from her bedroom. Who is responsible for abducting her? Maybe they will demand a ransom, or maybe the reason behind her abduction can be found in her past? You will have to try to unravel this mysterious story.

  • LAST MEETING PLACE

    Detective

We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!

The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!

  • Tea Collection’s Crowning Jewel

    Isabelle

My collection already has five elite types of tea. It’s crowning achievement must be the Flowering Tea. It needs to be tied up by hand using the upper-most leaves, buds and flowers; something like chrysanthemum, lilies, or peony. I’m sure you’ll get some. City magic for this type of delicate affair is just what we need.

Oh! That worked out well. You’re starting to get the hang of these tea ceremonies. The aroma of this Flowering Tea you tied up is so subtle! Let me guess what flower you added here. Hmm... It’s... chrysanthemum! Right?

  • White Tea

    Isabelle

White Chinese tea is another type I want to add to my collection. It’s one of the rarest and most sought-after teas in all of China. It’s the tea of Emperors. I really hope you can manage to find some.

You’re a miracle worker! Now I have White Tea for my collection. They call it ’white’ because of the white fuzz that covers the bud when it’s harvested. It’s best as a morning tea due to it’s intoxicating honey smell, freshness, and light bitterness.

  • Green Tea

    Isabelle

My elegant tea collection won’t be full without Green Tea. Its medicinal and restorative properties know no rival. Help me find some.

Here’s some Green Tea! You’re so fast. You didn’t accidentally drink some of it, did you? The leaflet says: "Drives away exhaustion and boredom, quenches thirst and makes the body light." Hmm, you don’t think they mixed that up with a description of hookah? "...has anti-aging properties." Now that’s a selling point!

  • Oolong or Wulong

    Isabelle

My tea collection is always growing, but I still haven’t been able to get my hands on any Oolong, or Wulong (These Chinese pronunciations aren’t for me at all). Oolong helps maintain a good figure for many years to come. Please look for some.

What luck! You found the famous Oolong tea! It’s considered to have one of the most complex aromas and taste. For that reason it’s used for some of the most important tea ceremonies.

  • Shu Puer

    Isabelle

The next in my collection is the famous Shu Puer tea. The leaves of this tea are specially picked to be aged, kind of like a fine wine. It'll be worthwhile for you to find some.

How about that! Shu Pu-erh "Red Flute" tea! Thick and rich, with a bitter taste. And a nutty after-taste.... I’m happy.

    Organ Room

  • Sheng Puer

    Isabelle

First of all, for my tea collection can you look for some Chinese Sheng Pu-erh tea. It’s picked from ancient trees in the famous Pu-erh mountains of China. It is highly respected tea for conducting ceremonies and for serving to the most distinguished of guests. I’ll start inviting everyone to my house.

You’ve already found some Sheng Pu-erh tea? How I love the aroma of dried fruit, apricot jam and sweet raisins. I also detect a hint of flowers. Wonderful tea, don’t you agree?

  • Magic Immortality

    Valerie

The book I read from cover to cover says that people use talismans to feel more confident. For me, I’m getting my hopes up the most for a Budai sitting solemnly atop a three-legged toad. This will surely guarantee my happiness. I bet that if we combine all of the Budai statues with some City magic we’ll receive this powerful source of positive energy.

Very cool! A Budai on a three-legged toad is a symbol of magic and immortality. I want to ask Isabelle to teach me how to control the Budai’s magic. Just enough to grant my most precious desires. I’m not asking for too much, am I? Oh, right, I made you a reward earlier, take it. Before anyone taught me how to use magic I didn’t know what to do with artifacts like this.

  • Riches and Science

    Valerie

Promise me you won’t laugh when I tell you which Budai statue I want next. I need a Budai with a Carrying Pole, gold, a crown, and scrolls! Can you find me one like that?

Wow, look at him! A Budai with a Carrying Pole! You were right about me; I want everything as fast as I can get it. I hope this Budai will bring me success, riches and financial independence.

  • Sweeping Away Sadness

    Valerie

I already have a couple of Budai talismans. I hope that the Budai with a Fan brings me happiness. That is, of course, if you can find it.

Hurray! Now I have a Budai with a Fan. My happiness is guaranteed. This fan will blow away all the troubles and obstacles that stand in my way. But we mustn’t forget to activate it by rubbing its belly three hundred times.

  • Spiritual Balance

    Valerie

My happiness talisman collection is still missing a Budai with Prayer Beads. It’s supposed to help a person find their path in life and achieve spiritual balance. Please look for one. Living in this City without balance is impossible.

You found it! Excellent. There’s a reason the Budai is depicted with prayer beads. I read that he used to be a monk who walked from settlement to settlement and helped anyone interested to find their way in life.

  • Spiritual Wealth

    Valerie

Please help me find a Budai statue with a pearl. I already told you I’m collecting happiness talismans, right? Just pay attention: the statue must be made from gold or bone. Everything else is a knockoff.

Oh, thank you! I hope this Budai with a Pearl makes me richer. I read that the pearl represents both material and spiritual riches. Can you believe it, we need to activate this one too. Rub its belly three hundred times!

  • Health and Long Life

    Valerie

Boy, a little extra happiness and luck in the City of Shadows would do me good! After digging around in the library, I decided I need a Budai, a source of positive energy. I don’t need a huge statue, just a couple of smaller statues that have different features. For example, a Budai with a Peach grants the holder a long, illness-free life. Help me find it, please.

Ha! There it is! The plump, happy Budai is holding a peach branch! We need to make a wish and rub his belly three hundred times for it to come true. I didn’t come up with this ritual, I read about it in the library.

  • Aroma Altar

    Isabelle

In order to replenish a depleted aura one must mix together fragrances on a base called a Joss Stick Sanctuary. So, lay out the cones you found and surround them with City artifacts while I read the required spells. Do you see that? It’s smoking, and the smoke is getting thicker.

Can you feel the negativity retreating? My aura is once again centered. Plus now we have a Joss Stick Sanctuary, which is a talisman that beats back evil and grants lucidity. Please accept this reward as a thank you.

  • Frankincense Protection

    Isabelle

Frankincense is the last fragrance I need to replenish my aura. You’ve probably already heard about its benefits: it is an aroma that instantly protects, intoxicates and purifies. All those benefits in just one cone. Will you bring me one?

Can you smell that sharp, woody aroma as well? It’s the smell of the fragrant Frankincense Cone you found. It helps people recharge after a hard day. It’s also known to sharpen your mind and treat forgetfulness. A useful quality, indeed!

  • Rose Truth

    Isabelle

Another fragrant cone I need is of dark rose. In my aroma therapist’s textbook it says: "Roses bring people closer to heavenly truth." I’m not sure if that’s true, but they can definitely cleanse someone’s aura. Can you bring me one?

Thank you. This dark rose incense cone will help me cleanse my consciousness and increase my inspiration and happiness. At the same time it helps to heal spiritual wounds.

  • Lavender Tranquility

    Isabelle

The third ingredient in my recipe is my favourite - lavender. It creates an atmosphere of cosiness, tranquility and relaxation. In the past, priests used to grow this herb just to decorate their altars. Please find me a fragrant Lavender Cone.

Thank you. They say that lavender is associated with morningstars and the element water; but I don’t need flowers. The fragrant Lavender Cone you found will help me attract some positive energy. That’s what this is all about after all.

  • Good Old Sandalwood

    Isabelle

In order to quickly replenish my aura and banish negative energy, I use fragrant cones made from sandalwood. In traditional aromatherapy sandalwood can create a sense of tranquility and peace. Please find some.

I’ll be using this fragrant Sandalwood Cone as a way to achieve deep meditation. Perhaps you’re interested in its ability to bring about prosperity? I don’t need it for that.

  • Myrrh Cleanse

    Isabelle

I spend every day going to the most deviant areas in the City of Shadows, and on my way back home I always bring back a lot of negative energy. I know a way to replenish my aura with the help of a ritual involving a mixture of aromas. The first ingredient in my recipe is a fragrant cone made from the myrrh tree. Please find one.

Excellent, this is definitely a fragrant Myrrh Cone. Its role in the ritual is obvious: after it has been burned it brings about a blessing and after a couple of spells - it attracts strength and good luck.

  • Freedom of Love

    Martha

The chatty Jackdaw said that the canopy was more than a gift. It’s a trap for Lovers’ Souls where witches and warlocks can feed off their energy. We must destroy the evil charms contained in that cursed box! Help me carry out a ritual to free their souls. Bring the canopy and roses into the Room of Fate. And don’t forget to grab a couple of artifacts to make the magic even stronger.

Finally, the two Lovers’ Souls are free! "My lady" (definitely the Mistress) received a gift from a warlock as evil as herself, that enabled her to feed off the energy of captive love, but it didn’t work out. Thank you for the help! And thanks to Juliette too for sounding the alarm!

  • Snake Tiebacks

    Martha

What keeps shuffling around inside the gift box? We’ve already removed and examined the canopy. Go look for its Tiebacks. I bet we’ll be in for another surprise.

I was right. Snake Tiebacks are the definition of extravagance! Whoever sent this package has very specific tastes. I for one would keep my distance from them.

  • A Jackdaw Story Teller

    Martha

Hmm, they sent this gift to ’my lady’?... Does the Mistress really have a title? Interesting news. If you find my chatty Jackdaw I’ll ask it about this canopy.

You found the Talkative Jackdaw. It’s powers include black magic, gossip and thievery. I’m reaching out to it because the present Juliette opened is extremely dangerous.

  • Canopy Holdback

    Martha

In Juliette’s strange gift box we uncovered Curtains from a canopy woven with spiderwebs. Look around, there’s got to be a Holdback for those curtains.

A spider is the canopy’s Holdback?! This was definitely meant for the Mistress’s bedroom. No one in their right mind except the Mistress could admire cobwebs. Who would give her such a thing?

    Organ Room

  • Cobweb Curtains

    Martha

Let’s take a close look at what’s inside if we want to learn more about the package Juliette opened. Look, what is this? It appears to be a roll of cobwebs. Bring it here, please.

These are Curtains made from real spiderwebs. I would venture to say that it’s part of a canopy. Here, look for yourself.

  • Gloomy Flowers

    Martha

Juliette found a strange package, and the items inside were whispering something... And those Black Roses... Give them here. I bet I can understand what they’re saying.

Hmm, the Black Roses don’t want to talk to me. That probably means their words aren’t meant for my ears. Only one thing is clear; the roses were sent as a sign of loyalty, and their black colour is reflecting the soul of whoever gave them.

  • The Past and the Future

    Martha

After so much effort, Alex’s past and future are still shrouded in mystery! Astrology without magic isn’t very potent. I think I should be able to unite these five different horoscopes into one universal one, and then we can see things clearly. I’ll need your help for this ritual along with some City artifacts.

Excellent! Thanks to you I’ve received Alex’s Universal Horoscope. It emphasises his originality of thought, external independence, intuition, and restlessness. Depending on what his mood is, he’s capable of anything, even aggression. His talent and adventure lines run parallel. Turns out our musician is a homespun rebel.

  • Mayan Predictions

    Martha

The horoscopes confirm everything we know about Alex, but there isn’t anything new here. Maybe we can try the Mayan Horoscope as well? I don’t even know where you should look for it. I’ve never used it before.

Woah there! Where’d you find this intricate Mayan Horoscope calendar? I’ll need a moment to get my bearings. The details here are entirely unfamiliar.

  • Runic Characters

    Martha

Alex’s Zodiac Horoscope showed us aspects of his character, but had little to say about his previous life. We need to add information on the controlling rune to his zodiac sign. Go find the Rune Horoscope in my private library.

So, let’s have a look at the Rune Horoscope. People born at this time are subject to the influences of their mood. They’re never satisfied with what they’ve accomplished. Any break in their activity leads to an internal collapse and the potential for aggression.

  • Star Influences

    Martha

We’ve figured out when Alex was born, so now it’ll be easy to make his horoscope. To do that bring me the zodiac.

Pass me that zodiac. Look, the first ten days of February are Aquarius. He controls Uranus. Alex is endowed with a rebellious spirit, but a battle on the barricades isn’t for him.

    Angel Statue

  • Tree Horoscope

    Martha

Alex’s past will be revealed to us soon. Right now we must clarify his exact date of birth. To do that we’ll use the Druids Horoscope. Bring it here as fast as you can.

The Druids Horoscope, finally! There are leaves from various trees over there; scatter them on the portrait and horoscope. I’ll read the wind spell and we’ll find out which tree Alex’s aura is connected to.

    Angel Statue

  • Eastern Prediction

    Martha

In order to read Alex’s past we need his birthdate. Bring me the draft of the combined Chinese horoscope - celestial trunks and earthly branches. Using them I’ll carry out a small ritual and we’ll figure something out.

Yes, that’s the semi-finished horoscope. Write below the stars: "Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, Wood." Now put Alex’s portrait in the centre of the rotating board and spin it. I’ll recite a few spells.

  • END OF THE GOLD RUSH

    Detective

We found all the fake signs thanks to you! I say we burn them, this problem requires a radical solution. I’ll go look for matches. Buddy, please bring some artifacts to help control the fire.

We did it! Thanks for helping me find the signs, buddy. No more "Goldmines," "Pirate Treasure," and deceived citizens. Wait a minute... I think I saw a note fly out of the fire! It was probably pinned to one of the signs, but we didn’t notice it.

  • THE RICHES OF SORROW

    Detective

The sooner we find these stupid signs leading to fake treasures, the fewer victims there will be among especially active citizens. Someone placed a sign to lost jewels in a nearby neighborhood. Let’s quickly find it!

This sign isn’t just a silly joke, it’s a call for looting. As soon as we get rid of the fake signs, I’ll figure out who this joker is and invite him for a serious talk. Thanks for the help, buddy!

  • GOLD VEIN

    Huntress

The fake signs have caused a gold rush among the citizens! You couldn’t find a single pick in the City stores even if you wanted to, and all because someone put up a sign leading to a goldmine! Please help me find it.

Great! You managed to find the sign! Mein Freund, let’s hurry and remove it. I just had to drag a group of local residents from the entrance to a dangerous dungeon almost by the ears. The next group of enthusiasts will have it worse, I’m angry now!
