Hidden City Walkthrough

Quest

These are the story/quests featured in Hidden City. There is a vast number of stories, and please note that the order and categories are unorganized, so it might be a bit difficult to navigate. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Restorative Cucumbers

    Juliette

The next mask is the Green Mask. That’s easy as pie! Fresh cucumbers! Why have your eyes gone so wide? You’ve never heard of it? That means you’re just unlucky. Find a couple of Cucumbers.

We slice up the cucumber and carefully place the slices. Where? On my face, of course! We’re not making a salad, we’re making a Cucumber mask!

    Manor House Gate

  • Sweet and Sour Mask

    Juliette

What was the colour of the next mask? Yellow? That’s really easy - it refers to a Honey and Lemon mask. Find some linden honey, mix it with lemon juice and put on as much as you want.

Maybe we should have a break in our search? I’ll relax in this Yellow Mask, which also tones the skin really well.

    Hall of Weddings

  • Berry Mask

    Juliette

Do you remember the maniac’s strange letter that forced us to collect different masks? I realised that he was actually talking about different masks we wear... Cosmetic Masks. What was the colour of the first one? Red? Bring the Garden and Wild Strawberry mask and you’ll soon understand everything.

You just need to squeeze the berries and put them on my face? So that’s the Red Mask. How do I look now?

    Manor House Gate

  • The Maniac’s Joke

    Juliette

Another new piece of text has appeared in the maniac’s letter. I’m getting scared... "You will get the right answer when you put everything you found in the main square of the City." There’s no way I would go there alone. Please walk me there and help me carry the masks.

Yes, our collection was missing one more mask - the Laughing Jester. It seems that this maniac is just making fun of us. Oh! There’s a note here as well.

  • Neutral Mask

    Juliette

Let’s see what else this maniac has written. "The solution is close. White is a neutral colour. The decision is yours." What decision? I have no choice. Bring me the White Mask, please.

The White Mask reminds me of death - what about you? Why should I try it on? I don’t want to do it.

    Manor House Gate

  • Carnival Mask

    Juliette

There’s a new part in the maniac’s letter! "Having difficulties choosing a colour? A mask is a visible expression of a mood. Maybe you should put it on and get your answer?" Be quick and find the Black Mask so I can try it on.

A black velvet mask is something else entirely. I immediately think of carnivals. What do you think? You don’t have to answer. I know that it doesn’t suit a blue dress.

    Hall of Weddings

  • Mask of the Liar

    Juliette

Just look! The maniac is definitely trying to play some sort of game with me! Listen: "You think that yellow does not suit you? There are other colours. What do you think of bright green? Try it on, my beauty, and think about the health of your face. Look at the colour on the picture." What picture? Oh, there are comics in this parcel as well... Wow! Yes, the Green Mask is mentioned here – it’s the mask of Loki, the trickster god. Try and find it.

I’m going to try on this Green Mask and quickly find this joker. That should be fun! Why isn’t anything happening? It seems this mask doesn’t suit me.

    Manor House Gate

  • Mystical Mask

    Juliette

Mon ami, what is this? Has some maniac decided to play around with me? I’m afraid for my life even more. Find the Yellow Mask as soon as you can.

This Yellow Mask immediately brings memories of the stories of Wilkie Collins. His mystic tales are truly terrifying! No, I’m not going to try this mask on either.

    Hall of Weddings

  • Blood Coloured Mask

    Juliette

All right, I’ll read it out loud: "I’m offering you to do a job for me, otherwise your beauty and health might be in danger. Try the blood Red Mask on without a mirror and tell me if it suits you." Do I understand correctly that I must find the Red Mask, put it on, but not look at myself in the mirror? I wouldn’t look, obviously, but what if this was written by some kind of maniac? I’m very afraid. Will you help me look for the mask?

This Red Mask made me remember one of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories. I really don’t want to try it on. Maybe you can put on the mask? No? Well, I can tell you without trying it on that I really don’t like it, which means that it doesn’t suit me.

  • Tea Drinking Time

    Conductor

We've finally managed to collect all of the items. Now we can start the tea drinking ceremony. But I want to surprise you with something. I have a very interesting item, which is called a "chaban." I bet you don't know what that is. I didn't know myself until recently. A chaban is a special table for the Tea Ceremony. Bring it here! Let's set out the tableware and drink some tea!

Everything's been found in the end - the teapot, the gaiwan, the tea pitcher, the drinking cup, and even the chaban. Let's set the table and start the Tea Ceremony.

  • Pinming Cup

    Conductor

Oh, they even stole the cup! Now we need to look for it too, otherwise, how can we drink the tea?

You've finally calmed me down with your finds. All the different vessels have been found. The tea set is complete. Time to drink some tea.

    Station

  • Tea Pitcher

    Conductor

Done properly, the brewed tea should be poured into a tea pitcher before being served. Maybe you simply didn't notice one near the gaiwan when you were looking for it? Have another look, please.

With the gaiwan we can brew the tea, but that's about it. This still isn't the full set.

    Manor House Gate

  • Special Cup

    Conductor

I need to see which other parts of the tea set have gone missing. Aha! I can't see the brewing cups anywhere. I use a gaiwan, not a teapot. Please find it.

In China, they call cups with lids and special saucers "gaiwans." I got them as a reward for some good advice I gave to someone who was new to the City. Thank you for finding it. But this isn't everything!

    Station

  • Aqua Vitae

    Conductor

Can you imagine, I was trying to fill up the teapot but I couldn’t find a container of water. It looks like I really did get robbed. A water container isn’t a needle, so it can’t just disappear. Please help me find it.

Ohh... I’ve even started to sweat from worry. But I’m very happy that you found a container of water for me.

    Collector's House

  • Six Magnolia Petals

    Conductor

I’ve become sort of absent-minded lately. I’d like to offer you some tea, but I can’t find any tableware. Maybe I put it somewhere else and forgot where? Help me to at least find the teapot. It’s valuable by itself, as it’s a Chinese antique.

You understood everything correctly. That's exactly the same kind of teapot that I had, made of Yixing clay with thick sides. It even has a name - "Six Magnolia Petals." This isn't a 16th century original, of course, but it is a very good copy.

  • Professional Aptitude Test

    Isabelle

I’m glad to hear that my recommendations and the effort you and Juliette put in have cured the Detective of apathy after the banishment of the Spirit of Gambling. I hope he’s ready to take up his duties in the City. I already have the last task for him – the Golden Key puzzle. You shouldn’t help him. The Detective should be prepared for this puzzle as part of his profession. Maybe you could bring a couple of artifacts to reinforce his natural abilities.

I wonder, who put more into solving the Golden Key puzzle, you or the Detective? I hope it was him. If the Detective managed to do everything, it means that he is healthy. It’s time for him to bring order to the City, as there are more hooligans and thieves on the streets now. I’ll leave the Fortune figurine for myself, as I really like it. I’ll find a different present for you, which is just as good.

  • Table Basketball

    Isabelle

It looks like the treatment is beginning to take effect. If the Detective is easily solving all the puzzles, let’s offer him something special. Find a Table Basketball Set for him. He can train his hand-eye coordination and strength.

It’s preferable for the Detective to learn to play table basketball by himself. After that, you can organise competitions for everyone that wants to play.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Complicated Square

    Isabelle

I recommend making the tasks you set the Detective more complicated. There’s a puzzle called the Pythagorean Square. If you find it, two or even three of you can put together various figures. Their variety will help the Detective to rehabilitate even faster.

Did you really solve the puzzles so quickly? And who put together the most figures in the Pythagorean Square? Was it Juliette? That’s just what I thought. No wonder they say that the female mind is more inventive than the male.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Ball in the Labyrinth

    Isabelle

If you’ve decided to work with puzzles, I propose that you find a Labyrinth. It’s really simple – you need to run the ball along the arrows. The main difficulty is to avoid the traps and not to lose it.

It looks like you’re solving puzzles with the Detective. Have you completed the Labyrinth? Not yet? I told you that you must pay attention! You need to have a firm hand, though.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Block on Block

    Isabelle

The Detective figured out the Toy Pyramid that quickly? Great! Now find some Toy Blocks for him. Let him train to put together the figures and numbers. It isn’t difficult but it’ll take up a lot of time and make him think.

Are you saying you weren’t interested in building with Toy Blocks? Look at the Detective, he’s giving them so much attention and trying so hard...

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Child’s Play

    Isabelle

What did you say was the Detective’s illness? He’s constantly apathetic? His current state is the result of forced inactivity. He needs to constantly solve different puzzles and conundrums; that way both his hands and his mind will be kept busy. Find something really simple for him first, like a Toy Pyramid.

Give it to the Detective. If he learns to put it together quickly, we can move on to the next stage of treatment.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Vices under Lock and Key

    Isabelle

The chains do not completely contain the demons of human vices. The Lock of Virtue needs to be created to lock the room in which they’re chained. We will have to conduct a ritual with the keys to the chains to do it. Put them at the points of the pentagram, place artifacts around it and I’ll read the spells. Hurry up, or the demons will continue to torment the citizens!

See, it turned out to be rather simple and the Lock of Virtue appeared in the centre of the pentagram. Now we need to put it on the door to the room where the demons of human vices are locked. And I’ll make sure no sorcery can open it. Thanks for your help, by the way - no one could deal with these vices better than you. You deserve a reward. Here, take it.

  • The Vice of Avarice

    Isabelle

The Chain of Vices wouldn’t be complete without the Demon of Avarice. Yes, you understood me correctly - carelessness, envy, pride and deception give birth to avarice, and avarice leads to anger, aggression, fear of losses and hatred. I can’t even imagine what the City could turn into under the influence of this demon. It seems that the citizens don’t want to help you yet again, so you only have yourself to count on in your search for the key to the chains of the Demon of Avarice.

If we have the key to the Demon of Avarice’s chain and the demon chained up, we can start the ritual to receive the Lock of Virtue.

    Room of Fate

  • Cheating and Lying

    Isabelle

The next on the list is the Demon of Deception. We had too much of this vice in our City even without him - just look at Cardsharp! But if this demon gets all the citizens in its power, we’ll be in trouble. Make every effort to catch it and find the keys to the chains that shackle it.

I bet you caught the Demon of Deception somewhere near Cardsharp - he’s a real personification of this vice. Hurry up and use the key to lock its chains! To be honest, I would chain up Cardsharp by its side - the City would be much calmer and the local citizens would have less of a headache.

    Station

  • Self-obsession and Pride

    Isabelle

You must’ve already guessed that I’m telling you about the demons in order of their hierarchy in the Chain of Vices. How carelessness breeds envy and envy breeds pride - disrespect towards other people, arrogance, boastfulness and ingratitude. This demon knows how to hide very well and people that are under its influence won’t even listen to you. You’ll have to work hard to find the key to the chains for this creature.

I’m really glad that your searches have been so successful. Let’s chain the Demon of Pride quickly and lock it with a key! Oh, the City really has become more comfortable and calm.

    Room of Fate

  • Envy is a Bad Feeling

    Isabelle

You’ve already had some practice with capturing demons. The next on the list is the Demon of Envy, who is anything but harmless. It enslaves people very quickly. Hurry and find the key to the chains of this demon, before the people of the City of Shadows fall under its power.

It’s really good that you were so fast in finding the key to the chains of the Demon of Envy. Be quick and lock them!

    Station

  • Careless Attitude

    Isabelle

The demons don’t just have to be caught - they need to be locked back inside. To use the Lock of Virtue, you need to get the keys to the magical chains of each of the demons. The most harmless of these terrible creatures is the Demon of Carelessness. Find the key to his chains, please.

Every person is careless in one way or another. Not thinking things through, and making rash decisions about words and deeds often bring about very bad consequences. This is why we’ll put the Demon of Carelessness on a chain and lock it with this key.

    Room of Fate

  • Good Craftsmanship

    Juliette

We’ve found the materials and tools for handicrafts and now we need to find somewhere to put them. The Mistress has started to get annoyed with the threads, balls of yarn, hooks and needles lying around everywhere. She only likes finished products. Basically, I decided to ask you for another favour. Please find me a Craftswoman’s Basket. The Mistress will be pleased and I’ll clear everything up. Will you help?

Mon cheri! I have no words to show my amazement at this basket! Everything fits in it, even several balls of yarn for knitting! I’m so grateful! As soon as I finish knitting the sweater, it will be yours! Please take this modest gift for now.

  • Knitting with Needles

    Juliette

I managed to learn crochet in the end. It turns out that it’s not too complicated. The main thing is determination and a lot of free time. I think I undid my crocheting a hundred times until I learned to do everything correctly. Now I want to learn how to knit with Knitting Needles. I have to ask you to find me some needles and yarn, of course. I hope that won’t be too difficult for you?

Hmm, I don’t quite get it.... Yes, I did ask you to find some needles and yarn, but there’s also a piece of partial knitwork here... It looks like a sweater. I hope you didn’t take it from someone by force. What? It’s a present? Interesting. Who was the nice and generous giftgiver?

    Manor House Gate

  • Crocheting

    Juliette

Mon cheri! I made an excellent Lace Napkin! Even the Mistress liked it, which is rare. Now I’m going to learn how to crochet. But I’ll need a Crochet Hook and some sort of sample - I can’t understand anything just by looking at the pictures. Will you find them for me?

I’m going to try and finish this star-shaped sample today. The guide says that crocheting is very easy. I’m going to check this statement in practice soon.

  • Lacework

    Juliette

I put in a whole lot of work, but I never managed to make a Beaded Butterfly. I’m ashamed to show what I ended up with. This is why I decided to try and master another craft for now - lacework. Please find me something simple as a sample - like a Lace Napkin.

I’m looking at this Lace Napkin and having doubts. Will I manage to do something like this too? Maybe lacework isn’t for me?

    Manor House Gate

  • Threading Beads

    Juliette

I want to show you something! I learned how to stitch really quickly. Now I want to start on bead weaving. I saw an example of it in the guide - it was called a Beaded Butterfly. Do you think you could find a similar one? I’ll try to copy it.

No picture, no matter how good, could convey the beauty of this finished work. This Beaded Butterfly is lovely. I’ll try as hard as I can to make a similar one.

    Hall of Weddings

  • Stitch to Stitch

    Juliette

After reading the guide a little, I understood that it’s easiest to learn how to cross-stitch. I just don’t know where to get the special "Aida" Fabric. I’ll be very grateful if you could help me find it. You can also choose the pattern that you want.

Thanks a lot! The fabric is of excellent quality and I love the pattern. You have great artistic taste! No wonder Martha praised you as an artist.

    Manor House Gate

  • Present for Amphira

    Juliette

The Sewing Kit gift for Amphira is ready. All that’s left is to pack it nicely and for the Captain to add some love and affection.

We’ve managed to make such a wonderful Sewing Kit! I think that Amphira will like it - especially since the pirate Captain will give it to her personally.

  • Sewing Scissors

    Juliette

Another important sewing tool is a pair of Scissors. They can be used for cutting both thread and material. Find them, please.

The main thing with Scissors is for them to be properly sharpened. We’ll need to make the ones you found sharper. But I think the Huntress knows a sharpening master that can do it.

  • Embroidery Hoop

    Juliette

Master embroiderers often use Embroidery Hoops for their work. It’s a special device that stretches the material and makes everything much easier. Can you find one? If you can’t, the hoop can be made to order.

Oh, you even managed to find an ivory hoop! Maybe it was used by some princess... Why are you so surprised? Princesses used to learn how to embroider in the past.

  • Protection for Delicate Fingers

    Juliette

If Amphira hasn’t done any sewing, then she hasn’t got the knack for it yet. We must protect her fingers. I’m talking about a Thimble. It would be even better if we had several. Will you take care of it?

The Thimble you found is really small. If it’s not right for Amphira’s fingers, get ready to find another.

  • Needles in the Needle-holder

    Juliette

The main sewing tool is the needle. You shouldn’t think that everything is so simple though. We’ll need both sewing and embroidery needles. Choose some that are of different sizes and stick them in the pillow so we don’t lose them.

You found the most beautiful Needle-holder! Or was it made to order for you?

    Crash Site

  • Thread by Thread

    Juliette

The Captain wants to give a sewing kit as a present? There’s nothing easier! The main thing in a kit like that is the Thread. The more shades the better. Bring some to me, please.

Now that the sewing threads have been chosen, it’s time to think of some other tools.

  • Arrangement of Clocks

    Isabelle

There’s also an inscription on the star clock. It says that if we arrange all the clocks correctly, we’ll get a unique instrument that can measure time and indicate the position of the planets. It might help us find a way out of the City. Let’s try!

Amazing! Another clock has appeared in the middle of the star. But it isn’t just a clock - it shows the movement of the planets here and the stars over there. This device demands studying. Martha might help me uncover its mystery. Thank you!

  • Help from the Stars

    Isabelle

That’s right, we didn’t pay enough attention. There is another inscription here.\n "Its design is rather bright,\n Under starlight in the night.\n You must turn the disks just right,\n The hour will lie before your sight."\n I know what it’s talking about. It’s a Nocturnal - a star clock!

Yes, a Nocturnal is a very unusual clock. But people needed some way to know the time at night. So they invented this complex mechanism.

    Collector's House

  • Fires of Time

    Isabelle

What about the brother that can’t live without fire? That’s probably and incense clock. What is it supposed to look like? A huge fire with a ram on a spit? No? Oh, it’s a candle that monks made to be the right length to burn out during one prayer service... Do we just need a normal candle?

Nothing special. A candle, a candle holder and protective glass. It’s a real waste to measure time this way - you’ll always run out of candles.

    Manor House Gate

  • Water Hour

    Isabelle

I wonder, what other clocks it meant? What does your inner voice tell you? Is it silent? That’s a shame... I’m going to go out on a limb and suppose that if there is an Hourglass that works using sand, then there must be a water clock. Isn’t it also called a Clepsydra? Maybe you can try and find one?

So, this is a water clock? How does it work? Does someone stand there with a jar and pour water into it? No? Oh, I see, they put them by a source of water... Now I understand.

    Collector's House

  • The Sands of Time

    Isabelle

Take a closer look! There are inscriptions worked into these drawings... Listen:\n "Three brothers do I have,\n The first can’t live without fire,\n Water is the second one’s desire.\n Third one spills the grains of sand,\n They all work until the end,\n In each other’s stead they stand."\n Oh, I know! It’s about an Hourglass. Let’s find it!

I’ve seen the same Hourglass before. I think it was at Martha’s... You didn’t take them from there, by any chance? I wouldn’t want any trouble...

    Collector's House

  • Light and Shade

    Isabelle

Was the answer really that simple? A sundial and the shadow of the arrow? But it all comes together... When there are clouds in the sky, there are no shadows and the shadow grows and gets smaller during the day. I just wonder, where this Sundial is?

It seems that this Sundial was made by a great master. It’s covered with many engravings and embossed patterns - it probably took someone’s whole life to create this work.

    Collector's House

  • Creating the Monster

    Conductor

It seems you’ve found all the parts of the First-born Gargoyle from the Collector’s diagram. Now we can put them together and connect the heart to the body. Do you think that the Gargoyle will come to life if we use some artifacts?

Look! The First-born Gargoyle has started to move! It’s soared into the sky! Follow it, quick! Find out where it’s flying to. Oh my! The Gargoyle has gone towards Isabelle, not the Collector!

  • Sharp Eyesight

    Conductor

I think I know what’s missing - the mechanical Gargoyle has no eyes. Find them, please.

I hope this is the last part we need for making the gargoyle.

    Jack's Masquerade Ball

  • The Monster’s Heart

    Conductor

What will we do next? What parts of the metal Gargoyle are we missing? I guess we now need to find the heart. It’s just a guess, though.

The Collector made such a beautiful heart for his mechanical Gargoyle! Well then, let’s try to put it together and see what happens. Hmm... It seems that everything has been correctly assembled and we didn’t mix anything up, but the Gargoyle still isn’t moving. It won’t even blink...

  • Above the Clouds

    Conductor

Judging by the body you found, we’re assembling a metal gargoyle. I don’t even have to look at the diagram to tell you that we must also find a pair of wings. What kind of Gargoyle doesn’t have wings?

That’s strange. The wings are not metallic. I shouldn’t have called our bird a metal Gargoyle.

    Jack's Masquerade Ball

  • Fortified Torso

    Conductor

I don’t think that the bird that we’re collecting parts for will be aggressive. The Collector never created monsters, isn’t that right? Also, this part of the diagram looks like the body of a bird, not a griffin. Can you find an Armoured Torso like that?

I think that these Claws and Armoured Body look like parts for a metallic gargoyle.

    Jack's Masquerade Ball

  • Sharp Claws

    Conductor

I looked through some of the stuff at the Station and found a strange diagram for some sort of bird. We have already seen something similar - do you remember the diagram of the Collector’s robot? Now he’s provided us with a new mystery! The Latin numeral V is drawn here too. I think we will need to find five parts of this creature. If you look at the diagram carefully, those lines look like claws. Maybe you can try to find them somewhere?

Wow! Those are some big claws! Greek griffins probably had similar ones. Maybe it’s a griffin on the diagram, not a bird? We’ll put it together and watch it come to life and start running around the City, just like the robot.

    Jack's Masquerade Ball

  • Put the First-aid Kit together.

    Isabelle

How is the Conductor? Is he still alive? We need to hurry and get Paracelsus’ First-aid Kit as soon as possible. We will need all the tools you found, as well as several City artifacts. Bring them and get a First-aid Kit - the Conductor won’t last long.

Just look at that! The medicine from Paracelsus’ First-aid Kit turned out to be incredibly effective - the Conductor is coming back to life right in front of our eyes! Well, he now has a second birthday to add to the calendar of his life. There’s no doubt that you deserve a reward for your good deed.

  • Acetylsalicylic Acid

    Isabelle

Aspirin is another part of Paracelsus’ First-aid Kit. We only need a little bit of it. Just a pinch will be enough.

I’ve got to give you some credit - it’s a whole mug of Aspirin! Was it stored by the Conductor himself?

    Station

  • Ground Medicine

    Isabelle

Every self-respected alchemist ground his preparations by hand. But this required an apothecary’s mortar. Bring it to me, and don’t forget the pestle.

We’re not going to use the mortar for its intended purpose today - we don’t have time for that.

    Station

  • Precise Weighing

    Isabelle

I can’t do anything without a set of medical scales and I know for sure that Paracelsus used to have a pair. Use your imagination and look for them.

I hope you took the weights with these Scales? You have a full set? Everything’s going great so far! We’ll save the Conductor in no time.

    Station

  • Secret Pocket

    Huntress

Show me what you’ve found. So... We have the remains of a Safety Ring, Cardsharp’s Top Hat and tuxedo and a sign of Cardsharp being alive... Is that all? I’m sure there are more secret compartments in this tuxedo than there are fleas on a werewolf! See, you can feel something here! It feels like a bottle.

I was right. There was a sealed bottle in the pocket that had cards inside. Open it, so we can take a closer look at them.

  • Missing Tuxedo

    Huntress

Well, I said I would help, so I will. When I was laying in ambush and watching the gargoyles, I saw how they took something that looked like a tuxedo from the shore. Maybe this information will be of some use to you?

I swear by my blade that this is the tuxedo I saw! It belongs to Cardsharp. But how did that rogue lose it?

    Hall of Weddings

  • Lost Hat

    Detective

Let’s go to the shore together. Four eyes are better than two - we’ll notice more this way. Maybe we will even find Cardsharp and his things. By the way, what could he have lost? A chain? A top hat?

This is Cardsharp’s Top Hat! We need to organise a search throughout the area by the shore. However, only you can persuade the locals to take part. I’ll keep looking around here.

  • Pieces of the Ship

    Detective

If Cardsharp is alive we must organise a search for him. It’s possible that the sea threw him onto the shore. Walk along the edge of the water - maybe you’ll find the remains of the boat or come across Cardsharp himself.

Yes, there really are some pieces of the ship on the shore. And what’s this? Oh, it’s the Broken Safety Ring that Cardsharp used to get to dry land! But where is he?

    Hall of Weddings

  • Answer From the Pendulum

    Isabelle

Find a piece of paper, put a dot in the middle, use lines to divide the rest into three parts and label them "YES", "NO" and "NEITHER".

Everything’s ready. Now I’ll position the pendant over the centre of the sheet and ask whether Cardsharp is alive. The pendant will swing towards one of the sections so you will see the answer with your own eyes. So, let’s have the answer to my question... "YES." Cardsharp lives. And what about the Captain? The answer is "NEITHER".

  • Magical Search

    Isabelle

You want me to divine the fate of the missing pair? All right. The easiest and most reliable way to do it is to use a pendulum. Bring me a pendant on a chain.

Another item is needed in addition to the pendant you found.

    Hall of Weddings

  • Set Sail!

    Captain Drake

Everything is ready for the journey. I’ve packed all the presents for Amphira as well. Time to lower the vessel into the water and hope for fair winds and good fortune. I hope I’ll get both with the help of some City artifacts. Shall we begin?

I swear by the mainmast, this is just amazing! The ship floats and even obeys the rudder! All right, I’m leaving. Wish me on my way with a hundred feet under the keel. Oh, and take this item that I got during a pirate raid as a reward.

  • Relaxing at Sea

    Captain Drake

Well then, I think it’s time to make things comfortable for myself. I want to equip a cabin on board. Will you help? I need a Hammock to rest in, at least. Will you help me to find one?

Thanks for the Hammock! The cabin turned out just great. It’s a bit cramped though, unlike the one on the ship I came from. The ship I have now is not as luxurious...

  • Safety from Drowning

    Captain Drake

I hope that no one will end up overboard when I sail to visit Amphira. However, a ship must always have a Safety Ring just in case.

I really hope that this Safety Ring will not sink and will help someone who’s drowning.

  • Rudder to Port!

    Captain Drake

I’ve had a proper look around the vessel. It’s lacking a couple of important parts - a Rudder and Wheel. You’ll help me find ones that fits, won’t you?

Well done! The rudder really fits the hull and the wheel will make controlling the vessel much easier.

  • Fair Wind

    Captain Drake

I’m glad this tub has a mast, at least. If you also find a Sail I would be very grateful.

You’ve done well. The Sail is like new - it only has one patch.

  • Stern and Deck

    Captain Drake

By thunder and lightning, what a wreck! I’m sorry, but I couldn’t contain myself. I think that if this thing is repaired a bit, it will probably float.

  • Dog Riding

    Huntress

Everything is ready for training the dogs that Cardsharp uses in his dog fights. Exercises that train speed, agility, strength and endurance await them. I think we should first harness the dogs to the cart and look at the result. We’ll load the Bicycle and Scooter in it and they’ll take it to their pens, while we watch them.

The whole appearance of our four-legged friends really shows that they are full of doggy joy! These happy training sessions are much nicer than the fights that Cardsharp organised.

  • Dog-scootering

    Huntress

For those that like excitement, we can organise dog-scootering - another type of sport. It involves riding scooters which are also drawn by dogs. By the way, dog-scootering is completely safe; if you have the right set of skills and training of course. Find me the right kind of Scooter, and I’ll demonstrate it to you personally.

See - the Scooter is completely safe. Everything will depend on the pulling power of the dog.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Dog Bicycle

    Huntress

I propose bikejoring as way to train the dogs further. It’s a sport where bicycle riders are drawn along by dogs. Your task is to find an appropriate Bicycle. I’d just like to ask you not to get anything exotic from the beginning of the 20th century. We need a standard road bike.

Oh, I see you did what I asked - you found a Bicycle without any extras. Danke schon.

  • With the Wind at your Back

    Huntress

Now you need to find and select a cart. Everything’s down to individual preference.

Mein Gott! This is a proper chariot! No, no, it will suit us of course.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Dog Harnesses

    Huntress

Large dogs like the ones Cardsharp has, need to pull serious loads. I propose that we try Dog-carting - a riding sport where dogs are harnessed to load-bearing carts. For fun you can sit in the cart as well. If you like this idea, then we’ll need to choose a harness for every dog. Try to do that.

Yes, these harnesses are very comfortable - they are light and firm.

    Yard of Forgotten Toys

  • Flying Saucer

    Huntress

I’ve read a whole mountain of books about dog training in the City library. In addition to training obedience and poise we’ll develop the speed, agility, strength and endurance of our pets. We will need special equipment for the training sessions. The first item we need is a Frisbee. Do you know what that is? It’s a flying saucer that the dogs catch and return. Find one and I’ll show you how my Rudy does it.

That’s right - the saucer must be large and rigid. Look at the way my Rudy catches it.

  • Final Preparations

    Alex

It’s time to assemble and install the tables. Don’t forget about the additional accessories like the pockets, rims, supports and table covers...

I wonder, how is it that I know so much about billiards? Maybe my memory is coming back? I even know the rules of the game... Hmm, I think I’ll really enjoy shooting some balls with Valerie soon.

  • Helpful Accessory

    Alex

Another important billiards accessory is the bridge that the players use to support the cue. I think these devices will prove useful. Find them please.

Oh, I see that you’ve found several types of Bridges. That’s really good - the players will get a choice.

  • An Important Accessory

    Alex

You also need a Triangle Rack to play billiards. The requirements for these are not as strict as for the balls. The main thing is for it to be well-made.

Oh, wow! Where did you find a hardwood Triangle Rack? It’s really valuable!

    Hall of Weddings

  • An Ideal Sphere

    Alex

The quality of billiard balls differ depending on the material they are made of. This is why it’s best to find Balls from a well-known manufacturer.

Do you understand what I was talking about when I asked you to bring Balls made by a famous manufacturer? Look at them carefully - they are perfectly round, so it will be a pleasure to play with them!

  • A Billiard Player’s Weapon

    Alex

Now you need to find a billiard cue. Better to find more than one.

It’s good that the Cues are different in length and weight. The players will have something to choose from.

  • Baize for the Billiard Table

    Alex

Yes, I will help Cardsharp. I already have several ideas. The exciting card games can be replaced by Billiards, for instance. For Cardsharp, the general background will remain the same - it will be the same hall full of tables. I’ll even agree to help find some Green Baize for the table.

Notice that the baize on the Billiard Table is green, the same as on the card tables. This is another powerful part of the treatment we’ve chosen for Cardsharp.

  • Shooting Target

    Detective

It seems someone prepared very thoroughly, experimenting with different types of weapon. This sort of training always needs a target. Do you think we’ll find it?

The target is completely worn out. They must have thrown Darts and Shurikens at it many times! I have a bad feeling about this... Let’s show our finds to Martha as soon as possible. Pack every piece of evidence into a separate bag so that everything is in order, and hurry to our expert.

  • Poisoned Spikes

    Detective

You need to carefully search this area. Pay attention to any sharp objects. The Conductor could have been wounded by a fang, horn or even a spike! Stranger things have happened in the City of Shadows.

Wow! These spikes are huge! What sort of plant is that? A Venus Flytrap? Yes, it has a real mouth with spikes instead of teeth! Careful, don’t injure yourself.

    Collector's House

  • Sharp Darts

    Detective

Look at everything around here carefully. Hmm, it seems that the search area should be expanded... The throwing weapons could have been thrown from far away. What else do you think we’ll find here?

Oh my, a dart! Several darts, actually. They’re all different too... Were there several perpetrators? Is this a plot to kill the Conductor?

    Hall of Weddings

  • Right on Target

    Detective

Very interesting. We have already found two types of weapon that could have wounded the Conductor. But I have a hunch that we’ll find even more exotic weaponry here.

Now that’s what I’m talking about! A Shuriken! It looks like someone prepared thoroughly for the murder and spent a long time choosing the ideal weapon.

    Collector's House

  • A Child’s Weapon

    Detective

Looks like someone was doing some serious training here... Can you see those sharp pieces of flint over there? They’re used for shooting from a Catapult. Why are you so surprised? A Catapult is a serious weapon and a stone from it could be poisoned. Have a proper look around, maybe you’ll find it?

That’s just what I was talking about! You can shoot a projectile a hundred metres with a Catapult like that.

    Manor House Gate

  • Reed Darts

    Detective

Just a minute, I need to look around... There’s so many things around here - though it’s mostly useless trash. And what’s this? An airgun? Well, it looks like there’s more and more mysteries in our investigation... If there’s an airgun, there must be darts for it. Will you look for them?

You’re in luck! Do you know what you’ve found? This dart is made of river reed. Unspun cotton has been used to feather it. It’s even coloured so it’s easy to find the dart if you miss. Weapons that shoot projectiles like this were the inspiration for rifled weapons. We were shown something similar at the police academy.

    Collector's House

  • Goddess of Luck

    Martha

Now we have all we need for the ritual. Time to banish the Spirit of Gambling from the Detective! Draw a pentagram and put the symbols of luck at each corner. We’ll also need a couple of artifacts that have absorbed the magic of the City. Quick - I’m about to start the spell!

Do you see something shining in the middle of the pentagram, as if in a mist? This is the Goddess of Fortune - a small part of her has manifested as a figurine. That’s just what we need for our purposes.

  • Amulet of Luck

    Martha

We also need the Goddess of Fortune’s medallion for the ritual. I can’t think of where to get one. Unless the traders or smugglers have one?

I hope the price of the medallion was reasonable and you didn’t have to promise anything extra to the trader on my behalf?

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Coins of Joy

    Martha

We can’t do without coins for I Ching divination - the Chinese symbols of joy and wellbeing. Just make sure that they are genuine - they must have a square hole in the middle!

Let’s tie all the coins together with a red ribbon immediately. Come on, help me!

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Beckoning Cat

    Martha

The next task will be harder. You need to find a Maneki-neko, also called a "Beckoning Cat". It knows how to attract luck.

It’s so good that you’ve found a cat with a raised right paw! I completely forgot to warn you... The right hand paw attracts luck, while a raised left paw attracts clients to shops and restaurants... It’s possible that Cardsharp’s casino has one of those - it has a lot of visitors.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Lucky Horseshoe

    Martha

We’ll also need a Horseshoe for the ritual. It’s best if it’s made of a precious metal, but see how it goes.

A silver Horseshoe! This was definitely someone’s amulet against the forces of darkness! I hope it isn’t stolen?

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Lucky Clover

    Martha

It pains me to say this, but I was right. The Detective has been imprisoned by the Spirit of Gambling - an ancient half-godling that is small and vile. This creature feeds on the thirst for profit, enthusiasm without self-control and unjustified risk. We’ll use the power of Fortune, the Goddess of fate, luck and blessings. Find a Four-leaf Clover for me first. Then I’ll tell you what to do next.

I wonder, did you borrow this dried leaf from someone? Or did you have one of your own and decide to sacrifice it for a good cause?

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Reliable Armour

    Detective

Now we’ve got a rather decent set of devices for combating criminals. What else can you offer from the standard set of defensive devices? An armoured jacket as body armour and a helmet for the head? Help me put all of this on and then put everything in the right pockets. I could do with a few magical artifacts as well.

Looks like I’m well equipped. How do I look? Do I look intimidating? Then let’s go forth into Cardsharp’s domain! I really hope we won’t have to use extreme measures.

  • Steel Bracelets

    Detective

You forgot one important part of a policeman’s kit - the Handcuffs. I will definitely need them. In fact, I’ll probably need several pairs.

Hmm... May I ask... Did you take these Handcuffs off somebody? Why are they decorated with ribbons, strings and little bow ties? Well, at least they’re metal, not plastic, which is a good sign. It means they’re genuine.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Call for Help

    Detective

I guess it’s better to rely on getting help than on the Taser. I’d ask you to find a walkie-talkie, but it would be useless in the City of Shadows. Better find me a Police Whistle.

Now that’s something I can understand - a Police Whistle! It’s almost like a police siren. Just one blow of the whistle can stop a whole crowd.

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Shock Pistol

    Detective

And what if the gas and the net won’t work on the local ruffians? You’re saying there’s something more powerful? A Taser? What’s one of those? An electric shock pistol? Great, get it!

It turns out the Taser only has one charge... Not quite what I was expecting...

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Shooting Nets

    Detective

You think a Tear Gas canister won’t be enough? I agree... I remember some relatively harmless troublemakers that were unarmed. We used to catch them in fishing nets and take them to the pier. The fresh, sea breeze did them the world of good. I’m mentioning this because as I looked through the catalogue, I saw that they’d already invented a Net Rifle for catching that sort of troublemaker. It would be really useful for me.

Wow! This weapon has an additional function - it can emit a sedative gas. It’s a truly irreplaceable device for those that work alone!

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Make Them Cry

    Detective

I would jump right into the fray to restore order, but... When I was back in New York, where I came from, I had to fight the mafia, who were armed to the teeth. They shoot very rarely here in the City of Shadows, but they can easily curse you, bewitch you or give you the evil eye... Basically, there’s no way to do it without preparing in advance. I’ll need some relatively harmless devices to use on a crowd that is drunk with greed. A Tear Gas canister, for instance.

Tear Gas and a policeman’s badge are just what we need to calm people down! What, you don’t believe me?

    Red Rose Cafe

  • Help of Detectives

    Isabelle

Now that we have all the famous detectives’ items, we can perform a ritual to strengthen the Detective’s skills. We’ll just need a few magical artifacts and the items you found. I hope that after the ritual, the Detective will soon find this fearless thief.

The abilities you’ve conferred on the Detective are amazing: deduction, observational skills, logical thinking... With such an arsenal, he’ll find the thief in no time. Here he is, see?

  • Detective of the Church

    Isabelle

A person's profession isn't always relevant to their talent as a detective. I'm referring to Father Brown - a catholic priest. He could be easily recognized by his black Umbrella and ever-present Cappello Romano. Find them, please.

It used to be fashionable to call this Roman hat a "saturno" because it resembled the ringed planet.

  • Feminine Intuition

    Isabelle

We can't forget about women detectives - although this one didn't call herself that. Miss Marple was a humble, hard-working, and sociable old lady. Her Hat and Glasses were all the disguise she needed.

An ordinary image of an English village - Miss Marple in her ever-present hat with her glasses in her hand. Her observational skills never gave the criminals a chance.
