Mirror of Truth
Martha
We have all the fragments, but how will we connect them? If a mirror is broken, surely that’s forever? Especially when we have a magical mirror. However, the medium seemed confident. Let’s go back to her house and see what she can do.
-
Conscious necessity
Isabelle
But that’s the past. Now I’ve grown and learnt a lot. The study of anomalies has become my profession. By the way, you found some magic chalk - is there any left? I absolutely need some - it’s part of my equipment. To study the unnatural we must protect ourselves... Could you assist me a little more?
Yes, that’s the complete set... I won’t forget your kindness, I promise! I’m at your service now
-
We have a long history
Isabelle
It’s an old story... My childhood was not normal. I lived completely alone in a room with a floor-to-ceiling window. Every morning I saw a different view from the window as if the room had moved. I couldn’t open the door and was there years. I had everything necessary for life - water and fresh food, which appeared every morning, books, paints... Those memories - I need some fresh air!
Thanks, I feel better. I wasn’t completely alone in that room. There were different anomalies but I wasn’t scared; amused more like. They made the routine days bearable. Then I was woken one night by a puff of wind and saw the door ajar! I ran out but when I turned around there was just a blank wall. I was both happy and scared, but I could go wherever I wanted! Now I worry that someone else may be locked in that room.
-
It’s not safe yet
Detective
Let’s leave it for later. The City is too dangerous, but now we can eliminate all anomalies! Go to it while the Proton Trap is still charged!
After we eliminated the Poltergeist from the café, paranormal activity calmed down a little. As if they accepted defeat.
-
Beautiful stranger
Isabelle
I’m glad to see you, Detective. I came here to find you, but once I entered the café, a fight started with a dozen beasts... The most awful thing is that they’re almost invisible! I study such phenomena, but this was... for the first time... (Isabelle is so weak she sways) I’m sorry, I’m too tired... Could you bring me some water?
Hot sweet tea - even better than water. Thank you, I don’t think we’ve met before. I apologize, it’s so rude of me. My name is Isabelle, nice to meet you!
-
Trap anomalies
Detective
Poltergeists inside the café have completely lost their minds. Chairs, tables, bottles and glasses fly through the air; the door to the kitchen is broken - dishes gleam inside... A dozen knives are embedded in the wall up to the hilt! I fear the lady is in a bad way. It’s time to clean up the chaos!
Thank you, you are just in time! A little longer and I’d have been crushed by the counter. What an absurd death for an investigator of supernatural phenomena!
-
Discoverer’s Chest
Cardsharp
Now I’m sure that Mayor’s hints will lead us to the treasure and artifacts of the Exploration Chest. Add up all the facts we know and I’m positive there’ll be no trouble opening the Chest of treasures. And right after that we will keep our side of the deal and save the girl.
We’re at our goal! The key to the Exploration Chest is ours. It slides easily into the hole of the chest lock. A massive lid opens... Oh, colleague, our efforts are paid off in spades. Do you hear that? Somebody is calling for help.
-
Never say never
Mayor
If you agree to descend into the Dungeons and save the lost girl, I will show you the key’s hiding place. Quid pro quo, agree? Good, then listen. The cache is in the Dungeons under the Chest but you can only open it if you have a magical threefold amulet. If you put an amulet close to the cache, it starts glowing. But where to find this amulet I do not know.
I’ve kept my word and pointed you to the key’s location. Now you keep yours and save the girl who cries for help from the depths of the dungeons.
-
Surprise for Martha
Martha
The spirits led you to our City for a reason. You found all the parts of the scrying orb that was stolen from me. But all these things were cursed. Help me conduct a ritual that will return the orb’s ability to tell fortunes and peek into the future.
Thank you for returning my scrying orb to me. Now, after a hundred years, I can tell fortunes again. Please, take this artifact as a reward.
-
Manticore Claw
Detective
By the way, the book says that abracadabra finds various long lost things. Did you happen to come across something like that? A manticore claw? So why didn’t you just take it? Now we have to run around the whole City to find it.
Yes, Martha has been looking for this claw for a while. I even have a case against the boggarts regarding a theft. They have nothing to do with it, apparently.
-
Jumble of Thoughts
Detective
Did you hear? A new phenomenon appeared in City Hall - Abracadabra. This is what locals call mirages that jumble thoughts and make people forget even the simplest words. As with every other anomaly in the City, Abracadabra doesn’t appear at a location for nothing. Some rare, powerful objects must have appeared here. Find the artifact that has invoked the Abracadabra mode.
You say you have read this mysterious book after using the Deciphering Cube! Funny, the book actually describes the Abracadabra anomaly. It’s rather harmless, though it mixes up letters and thoughts. That’s certainly not nice, but luckily you can always use the Deciphering Cube to neutralise Abracadabra’s powers.
-
Legendary Royal Flush
Juliette
It seems the story about a fiery royal flush, the incredible luck-bringer, is true. You’ve found all the cards of the mysterious Mr. B, who beat Cardsharp in poker. But it’s as if these cards are magnetised and repel each other. Perhaps, it’s the result of their long stay in the fog. You’ll need a few artifacts to remove accumulated energy and gather a real royal flush.
Ah, monsieur, you really gathered a fiery royal flush! Cardsharp sends a thousand thanks and a promised reward.
-
Gathering Dusk
Juliette
Because of your help I found out that the unusual fog that suddenly shrouds locations is completely safe. Moreover, you can spot very rare items in it. I see a rare artifact in the fog. It was the Fiery Card. Find it for me.
I carefully studied the card that you found in the fog. It looks as if it were in flames but it doesn’t burn my hands at all. I heard one very interesting story about this card.
-
A City For an Autograph
Valerie
You have found all the celebrity autographs from the Mayor’s collection. The only trouble is, all of them are badly worn and some are even hard to make out. If we return the collection in such a state, the Mayor will be really upset. Use some reagents and artifacts to restore the collection.
I see that you returned the collection to the Mayor and he rewarded you with more than just words of thanks. Was there, by any chance, a jar of jam for me in that reward?
-
The Waiting Room Quest
Valerie
Night fell upon the Station of Forgotten Dreams. In the City it isn’t just a time of day; darkness thickens suddenly over a house or a section of the City. Night complicates the search for items but offers a chance to find rare artifacts. Could you please find my teddy bear? I dropped it at the Station.
Ah, here's my bear! Right under my nose! We missed it several times in the darkness. He's in one piece, but a little dusty.
-
Interesting Inscription
Valerie
I’m so hapless! While I was hiding my bear, the wind swept up the postcard and took it right into this strange darkness. And I’m absolutely sure I’ve seen some interesting inscriptions on it. I know that you are not afraid of the dark at all and you won’t leave a cute girl in the lurch. Please, bring me back that postcard. Pretty please.
Wow, it’s the photo of Beverly Eldridge! And with her autograph, to boot! What do you mean, you don’t know who she is. Are you kidding? She’s the most famous witch. Martha said she was the inventor of all important spells.
-
Solid Protection
Martha
This ghost will be returning to the world of the living time and time again, trying to take his revenge on Juliette. But Juliette’s suffering is unfounded - she just resembles the killer Countess, but you can’t explain that to the ghost. There’s only one way... we should put a talisman on her that’ll make her invisible for dwellers of the spiritual world. Find the rest of the parts necessary for the ritual, so I can make a talisman.
You saved Juliette. She can walk the streets of the City freely again, without fear of spirits. The Ghostly Talisman around her neck protects her from excessive “ghostly” attention. Ghosts are not always dangerous to the living. Sometimes I barter with them for rare artifacts and powerful amulets that they bring from the spiritual world. Now you can do that too, using ghost traps.
-
Tie to the Past
Martha
Ghosts are pale shadows of people, trapped between worlds. They come to the world of the living with bloodcurdling moans and pester people. Often they appear because of special items connected with their past or the cause of their death. Let’s try to find the reason for their attention to Juliette.
Upon vanishing, this ghost left behind a cameo with a portrait of a Countess. I bet, she played a part in the death of this man, and now his spirit can’t rest in peace until he has his revenge.
-
Ghostly Pursuer
Martha
Ghosts are in the City again, and one of them is chasing Juliette. The poor girl is so frightened of this disembodied spirit, she hasn’t slept in two days. Let’s try to help Juliette find a ghost trap. It’s a rare artifact that can catch spirits and send them to the otherworld.
Great, now you have a trap that can banish a spirit from our world.
-
Fire brigade
Huntress
I hope Isabelle is right - we are taking a big risk. I will go forward and you try to distract it so it lingers for at least a second. It’ll be enough.
We did it! I feared it would turn into an ordinary mummy and we would have to fight it, too. But no, there’s only a pile of decomposed bandages left, which smell quite disgusting. Ah, look, here’s a trinket, too. I don’t need it so can you keep it.
-
To the catacombs!
Isabelle
The burning bandages are soaked in a special fluid, but that’s not the reason it’s so hard to put out the fire. The Mummy itself turned into fire, contrary to all the rules of nature. You can only end its monstrous existence by reminding it what it was. The liquid used to turn the dead into a mummy will extinguish the fire.
You are lucky to be with me; I know these passages like the back of my hand. I remember finding an empty tomb for the first time: I was terribly surprised. Look, the pitcher is there, and it’s almost full. Don’t be afraid, there’s nobody here. Mummies rose and went to the City long before we came.
-
Water as a weapon
Martha
I didn’t expect our brave Huntress to be so terrified of a telepathic call. You nearly jumped to the ceiling and dropped your... musket? I hope you’ll be braver with the Mummy. As for water, I’m sure the Conductor would have tried that. If it was so simple he’d walk among us, bragging about his heroism. There’s something different here, but what? I advise you to ask Isabelle - she knows a lot about the history of Egypt.
Yes, I’ve heard about the Mummy, my heart goes out to you - it won’t be easy to deal with.
-
Conductor under lock and key
Huntress
What is that new monster?! My, it’s a Fire breathing Mummy! You wouldn’t lose this beastie at night, she’s like a walking torch! She’s blocked the entrance to the Station and she won’t let anyone pass her. The poor Conductor was locked up at his place of work. Not only that, a City newcomer could come to the Station, unknowingly fall into the mummy’s clutches and become grilled. I think I know what to do... Let’s visit Martha - I’ll tell you everything on the way.
The City is very logical, although not everyone will catch its logic. It’s especially true for the interaction of elements and substances. For instance, the Iron Gargoyle can be banished with a magnet, the Fire Fury can be put out with water... The Fire Mummy probably fears water, too, but before we risk approaching it too closely, I’d like to seek Martha’s advice.
-
Battle a Mummy
Detective
How lucky! Here it is, roaming the Sewers. Set the dart on fire and prepare for action.
You’re a real friend! I’d never have sorted it out alone. And all this because of that wretched scrap of paper! That guy made a bad deal and could have got something better. Unless there are more valuable things behind that door. You keep the papyrus - it’ll be a good reminder of the adventure.
-
Flammable!
Detective
It just crossed my mind - we’ll set the stinker on fire! Its bandages are very dry so they’ll burn in a flash and the mummy itself is just an embalmed corpse. What do you think? We need something burning, preferably an object we could shoot or throw - maybe a dart? Then we can run away if our idea doesn’t pan out.
You guys are reckless. And you, Detective... at last you’re adapting to your situation. I’ll be glad to help. Here, take these darts and a lighter. There’s not much gas, but it’ll be enough.
-
Warning
Cardsharp
A mummy appeared in the City, you say? Of course! The smell of decay, the swish of bandages, the sound of shuffling feet... Why didn’t I think of that? The guy I lost to was looking for inexpensive, ancient Egyptian trinkets. So he decided to make a cat’s paw out of me - what a beast! Now a monster runs about the City through his fault! We should warn the Detective so he can look for it, too. He’s a law enforcement officer, after all. Maybe you could tell him?
A mummy?! That’s dangerous - why didn’t you tell me at once? I’d think it was bloody Halloween if we weren’t in the City. Let’s return to the Sewers and hope it didn’t get too far yet. On the way we can decide how to fight it.
-
Iron monster
Isabelle
That’s a great cannon we’ve built! In spite of the instability of its construction, it will be enough for one gargoyle!
We didn’t manage to kill the gargoyle, but driving it away is a good result. It seemed terrified of our cannon; probably for good reason... If you’ve lived most of your life as a motionless statue, it’s very scary to become one again. I’m sure the gargoyle won’t poke its iron nose here again. Look, it dropped a bead necklace. I don’t wear such accessories, so you keep it. Start a collection, perhaps.
-
Lack of details
Huntress
The construction is simple and I can easily assemble such a cannon. I’ll set to work while you find me a magnetic coil - it’s one of the main parts. Look for one near the Angel Statue. Maybe the Conductor hasn’t taken away every mechanism part from there...
You’ve been away quite a while, I’ve already finished my work. I had to revise some details: the blueprints were too old and medieval. It advised us to use a virgin’s hair!
-
Weapon blueprints
Huntress
What to do? In such cases I usually seek help at the City archives. Some gifted inventors have lived in the City and their ideas will come in handy. The Conductor’s joke will actually be useful, too, although it’s not funny. Magnetic force will paralyze the gargoyle, so that’s what we need!
Here, look - a magnetic paralyzing cannon! There’s no inventor’s name indicated, but a note says it was designed to immobilize a knight in full armor. A strange idea, but it’s just what we need!
-
Huntress’ suggestion
Huntress
You won’t believe it but an iron gargoyle has appeared in the City. This is a real killing machine! It has blades and hooks surprisingly free of rust. What’s more, the Conductor saw it right next to the Station. I think we need to destroy this monster before it harms someone. Are you with me?
You realised just in time! The iron gargoyle is already in the City. I hope there’s only one but I wouldn’t suggest you attack it; ordinary weapons won’t help. Don’t even approach it as it will kill you on the spot. Don’t carry any magnets, either - you could attract something very sharp!
-
Stone Vault
Huntress
I see that you’ve succeeded in collecting all the items that bring life to these stone beasts. Funny how you were mere paces from the valuables hidden within the gargoyle statuette. But as bad luck would have it, the statuette has a secret. To open the statuette, you’ll need to find a few more magical artifacts.
You managed to open the statuette and discovered the valuable items hidden inside! Well, the City always rewards discoverers generously. And more importantly, I‘m now certain that you‘ve mastered the use of Thor‘s Hammer - you wield it as well as I do.
-
Stone Monster’s Heart
Huntress
The winged beasts are drawn like a magnet to items that can withstand the fog. They need the power of these artifacts to sustain their lives. These are usually highly valuable, gleaming baubles. Let’s see what this stone bird is hiding from us.
This gem is the heart and soul of the gargoyle and breathes life into the stone statue. There is nothing more valuable to them. Of course, they aren’t always gems like this - they could be other precious things as well.
-
Monster Attack
Huntress
Stop! It’s too dangerous here! A few hours ago, a stone gargoyle appeared nearby and attacked someone. This reanimated stone statue is invulnerable to swords and arrows. Only the power of Thor’s Hammer is capable of destroying the gargoyle’s stone. Going any further without it would be a big mistake.
Would you like to know where the stone gargoyles came from? Martha insists that the power that emerged during the City’s creation sometimes breathes life into the stone statues that decorate the city hall and the houses. But this is the first time I’ve seen it happen.
-
Electrum Anomaly
Isabelle
I see you summoned a new, highly dangerous anomaly - the Electrum. Its sparks muddle your thoughts and blur your vision. It hardly ever appears because there has to be an item with a strong psy-field in the City in order for it to happen. It’s like a Tesla generator. You’ll definitely find something rare in locations where the Electrum is active.
We’ve just witnessed an amazing phenomenon at the intersection of science and mysticism. Luckily, this anomaly is very rare! Anyone could easily be killed with a strong electrical discharge - I’d better hide the Tesla Generator so that no one gets hurt. The artifact we discovered is rather unusual – a golden magnetic needle. Looks like part of a compass...
-
Lightning Rod
Conductor
According to your drawing, this lightning rod has quite a simple design. I can assemble it in no time, but I’ll need a strong iron rod. You could wrench one from the Manor House fencing, but do it at night so the Mistress and Juliette won’t notice.
You didn’t even have to saw the rod off, it was enough to shake it loose? Ah, even the poshest house in the City is as desolate as the others... The Lighting Rod is ready but quite unwieldy, though it should work. Just promise to carry out your experiments away from the Station.
-
Mischievous Gargoyles
Conductor
Yesterday, those nasty gargoyles stole my register. I’ve been using it for a long time to keep track of all the newcomers at the Mayor’s request... Find the register and I promise to get you a generator and figure out how to knock up a lightning rod. I’m not even going to ask why you need it.
Thanks, the Generator is as good as new! But about the Lightning Rod; there’s a problem...
-
Searching for tools
Valerie
I soon realized I needed to show the book to you and Isabelle. There is a detailed description of an anomaly called Electrum: effects, summoning, dispelling. However, we’ll need a lot of equipment and I’ve no idea where to get it. Let’s copy the name and ask... the Conductor. I think he’s the only one who’d understand what’s what. We need a Tesla Generator and a Lightning Rod.
A generator? I should have one, but it’s long been collecting dust. I promise to look for it if you do me a favor. Quid pro quo.
-
Nikola Tesla
Valerie
Hello, how are you? Still studying anomalies? Then I have great news - just promise to take me along next time you and Isabelle carry out an experiment. It’s very important! Now follow me to City Hall, I’d like to show you a book...
See? An entire bookcase dedicated to Nikola Tesla. I didn’t take an interest before, but such attention to him in the City Library intrigued me. And not in vain! I found a book that was published with just 5 copies! Not surprisingly, this book is the most interesting.
-
Bad Gift
Isabelle
Most likely they came after the bracelet you found. This ancient, valuable item isn’t here without reason. I wonder how the Conductor knew about it.
You want to know what I was doing the day before this bat invasion? Well... I inspected the tracks, patched the elbows of my jacket, tossed back a couple of glasses, found this locket... I wanted to clean it and give to my wife – I may need to soften her up one day – then I saw a young lady’s portrait inside and knew my wife would disapprove of such a gift. You may take it if you wish.
-
Shots in the Air
Isabelle
I saw what was happening and ran to get you at once. You learn so quickly and surpass me in so many ways; sometimes I can’t keep up with you at all. The bats are back again. You drew them away but not for long. Let’s hurry and you can share your plan on the way.
We did it! This anomaly is indeed similar to the Boggarts, but they are not so easy to summon. They are so well-organized and act like a single organism. I wonder what artifacts are left behind.
-
Bat Hunting
Conductor
The same kind of misfortune once befell me at the Station. A newcomer came to my rescue, but he must have gone mad after. They covered him completely! I tried to catch one, but it slipped through my fingers. These creatures aren’t alive, they’re made of darkness itself, which is quite common in this City. They are much like boggarts – we can scare them with intense noise. But firecrackers will be too weak in this case.
Good stuff! Very loud and with little fuss. The bats will be gone before they know what’s going on.
-
Upset Conductor
Conductor
Our City has a new anomaly - Bats and they’re hiding by the Manor House Gate, of all places! I went for my flask, which I left there yesterday, but I started seeing double. It was like looking in a slanted mirror, and I couldn’t find anything. I’ll be indebted to you if you return my flask to me.
You look like death warmed up! These bats must have given you hell. But you were able to retrieve my flask, right?!
-
More Mess
Isabelle
Let’s try - just a few drops of ink... That’s it!
The poor Pirate’s wife paid with her reason for his exotic habit. At least we know how to summon and dispel the Sinister Shadows. I’m sure this knowledge will prove useful to all citizens.
-
Pirate Story
Isabelle
Maybe this anomaly was triggered by the Voice Recorder. Don’t forget an anomaly can be summoned with a particular item. I’ll try to figure out what is required to summon the Sinister Shadows. I have evidence that the first anomaly of this kind was conjured by an old pirate named Flint the Kraken Slayer. He wrote letters to his beloved wife in octopus ink... A tragic story, but the Shadows must have appeared with the ink. If only we could find some...
A vial monogrammed “F” - sea robbers are clearly fond of exquisite things. Let’s try to summon the Sinister Shadows.
-
Silence the Shadows
Isabelle
It’s pretty simple – use the Rune at City Hall to make the anomaly go away... Well, at least for a while. Remember to look for any unusual items, so that we can learn what attracted it.
You managed do dispel the anomaly? Great! It’s not my first day here, but I still don’t understand a damn thing in all that devilry. You have a voice recorder? It’s so weird to find something from our time at City Hall. It probably appeared with the Fog and caused the anomaly.
-
Rune of Silence
Isabelle
Thank you, Valerie. Now I know what we encountered. This anomaly is known as Sinister Shadows. It’s a bit like Night Terrors, but even more dangerous. However, the way to deal with it was found long ago as it causes much trouble to treasure hunters. You can banish it using the Rune of Silence but Martha doesn’t have it. You might find it in the Manor House but the Mistress is unlikely to part with it willingly, so you’d better sneak in at night.
According to the anomaly description, the Rune of Silence looks exactly like that. Let’s hope the Mistress won’t notice its loss. It’s high time we cleansed the City of the Sinister Shadows.
-
Where is Isabelle?
Valerie
Your friend Isabelle might know something about those Sinister Shadows. By the way, where is she? Hopefully, she and Martha already know about the anomaly and are looking for a solution. Shall we visit Martha and maybe you can introduce me to Isabelle?
Here is the anomaly witness. Isabelle was about to look for you, but the ball comes to the player. Please tell us what you’ve seen.
-
City Hall is closed
Valerie
Hey, be careful! Sinister Shadows have appeared in City Hall. It’s a new and very dangerous anomaly. Dark shadows roam the corridors and their tentacles bring back dreadful memories from the past. It’s as if your body is seized with terror and you just want to run away! Go see for yourself if you want!
I told you so! I’m scared out of my mind. Okay, maybe not out of my mind but I’m really frightened. It’s like a horror movie in there, only worse.
-
Dispel the Night
Isabelle
Since we’ve found what attracts the anomaly, we should find a way to dispel it. We’ll probably have to return to the Sewers. Wait, I’ll bring this lantern... Yeah, I know there are flashlights that work on batteries. Forgive my old-fashioned ways, but I’d rather trust this old lantern to dispel the darkness.
Amazing! We lit the Lantern and all the Terrors are gone. Even the air feels lighter. What a miracle! Look - I didn’t see that flying helmet when we were here earlier.
-
Face to Face with Terrors
Isabelle
Dangerous artifacts instead of children’s toys - that’s typical of this City. Let’s see if we’ve found the cause of the Night Terrors. We’ll leave the monkey toy in somewhere deserted and see what happens.
We did it! Let’s get out of here! My legs are giving way with horror! It’s pitch black, I wish I had my lantern with me...
-
Scary Toy
Isabelle
Poor Juliette, she’s so scared. You’ve clearly encountered the Night Terrors and it’s natural to be afraid - it’s one of the most unpleasant City anomalies... It brings pitch darkness and childhood fears. Getting past the affected areas is extremely difficult, and it’s good that Juliette has an escort. But what could have caused the Night Terrors to reappear? Search for something unusual and reminiscent of childhood at the Manor House Gate
Wow... How ghastly! It appears to be a simple children’s toy, but its face... That’s no smile, it’s a grimace! No child would play with it.
-
Escort
Juliette
A new anomaly has appeared by the Manor House Gate - Night Terrors. You won’t believe the mess they’ve made. It’s now pitch black and you can only see faint silhouettes of the items. I need to get to the Manor urgently but I’m so scared and I feel like there’s a monster behind every corner...
Do you have the same feeling? A terrible breakdown! I remember all my childhood nightmares... I refuse to leave here again before the night ends. Please, call Isabelle! She is the only one who can help.
-
WORKING METHOD
Isabelle
As you already know, the presence of boggarts in a location is a bit of a hassle. I was looking for a way to deal with them for a long time and found a working solution! The boggarts are rather shy and run away whenever they hear firecrackers explode. Find them and I’ll show you!
The bunch of firecrackers you found is a great way to demonstrate the effectiveness of my method of dealing with boggarts. It’s simple. As soon as they hear several sudden explosions, they get scared and start to run away.
-
SNEAKY THEFT
Isabelle
If you happen to find yourself in a place where time passes twice as fast, then rest assured that there are a lot of boggarts around. This is the main sign of this anomaly’s presence in a location! They also like to steal small things. They recently stole a hip flask from the Conductor. Can you help me retrieve it?
Great, you’ve found the Conductor’s hip flask! It’s good that the boggarts didn’t take it with them but hid it here. Now it’s quiet at the Station, so it looks like the anomaly has left. But rest assured, the boggarts will be back soon. And we must be ready for them.
-
Purse of happiness
Detective
You’ve helped me a lot - and not only me - but you took nothing. Why do you think the City isn’t swarming with coins? Actually, they tend to slip away from their owners, through their fingers and from their pockets as if they’re alive. A purse is the only way to keep them safely together and its owner benefits from all the coins inside... and more besides. I know where the purse is, take it.
What a nice purse you have there! The Detective helped you find it? Very nice... it would match my blouse... Just kidding; I don’t want you to give it to me. Keep all your magic coins inside and they’ll grant plenty of benefits. Keep it safe!
-
The dreamer’s mark
Martha
You’re saying that Don Juan was rude? Hmm, not all legends are true...\n I think there’s a special coin that can help you and the Detective - a reichsmark. A long time ago it was thrown into the fountain by a king nicknamed the Dreamer. It should soften Don Juan’s influence without suppressing it.\n Find the reichsmark.
Now I have the Ladykiller’s frank and the Dreamer’s mark. I feel strange changes within me. I want to both embrace and kiss Juliette immediately and tell her wonderful stories until morning. I’d say the coins are working!
-
Where is the medium?
Detective
Don Juan was unnecessarily rude to women. I’m afraid I’ll scare Juliette away if I behave in such a manner. Maybe I can soften his influence somehow. Let’s ask the medium for advice, maybe she knows something. Martha isn’t here, that’s strange. But she would never go without leaving some kind of a note for us. Let’s look for it.
Strange, Martha’s nowhere to be seen, but she left a note: “Gone to the Red Rose”. Does she know how to enter the Café? I thought no one knew but you. Let’s go!
-
Mad spirit
Detective
I can’t get inside the café. But it should be no problem for you, with your abilities. Take a look there, maybe something happened to Martha. And pick up a mug of coffee for me while you’re at it. I slept badly today.
How did you find me? I thought no one could enter. There’s a boggart on the loose and his magical echo even reached my house. I came here to pacify the spirit.
-
The ladykiller’s franc
Detective
Somewhere in the fountain lies a franc dropped by Don Juan. His knowledge of a woman’s heart will be useful. Let’s find this coin.
We got the coin, but I’m afraid it won’t be enough. I have some doubts... Listen.
-
Help needed
Detective
I’m in a difficult situation, buddy. I can’t think of anything else but Juliette, though I can’t get close to her at all. I should look for some kind of clue, the City might give me an idea.
The note says a coin from the fountain should help. That’s absurd. Which coin, from which fountain? Oh... the dry fountain near the broken statue. The Huntress said you were a pro at finding them.
-
Detective awaits
Huntress
Hi, I’m glad you came. Remember you helped me meet with Juliette? You know my feelings so I want to talk to you specifically.
-
The shilling of accuracy
Huntress
I already came here several times to find it with no success. But tonight I felt sure Kipling’s shilling would be mine. Now I’ve seen you I’m even more convinced. Your talents may attract the shilling to us - would you mind trying?
Yes, that’s it! Heh, town monsters, beware! No one can oppose the Huntress equipped with Kipling’s shilling of accuracy!

First-aid kit for Huntress
Huntress
I barely made it here. I twisted my ankle when the werewolves chased me from the dungeon. The first-aid kit from the plane crash would come in handy but I can hardly walk. Will you help me?
Let me take some medicine and bandage my feet, then I’ll tell you why I came.

The cent of straightforwardness
Alex
My investigation isn’t progressing and it makes me think of Sam Spade, the great private detective. Have you heard of him? There’s a famous book about him, “The Maltese Falcon”. He was always so straightforward and got what he wanted. This is something I lack. I’m always dealing with my own past and I get lost in a maze of memories. The Medium said there’s a one cent coin that Sam Spade dropped when he visited the City once. I’d love to have it.
My desire to settle my past is increasing. My self-confidence grows, too, and it feels like I’ve grown in height and my shoulders straighten by themselves. I’ve even remembered something from my past life! I have to check it out; see you later.
-
The yuan of bravery
Valerie
I lack confidence and leadership skills. I am, to put it one way, too obedient. In this fountain was a Yuan coin thrown in by the Chinese Heaven Emperor when he passed through the City. That Yuan was charged with some of the Emperor’s authority and self-confidence. Can you find it for me?
Is it the same coin? I have to hold it... Hmm, I don’t fell anything. But if I put it in my pocket I’m sure it will work! Ah, I think I feel myself becoming braver! Or not... I feel it... Yes, I bet it works! Give me three dozen werewolves, I will beat them all! Okay, now to visit the Conductor, he accused me of being meek. Time to show him!
-
Detective is angry
Detective
So, the most magical flower wasn’t for Juliette but her mistress? I won’t tolerate this! Juliette deserves the most beautiful orchid in the world. Nero Wolfe called it Phalaenopsys Aphrodite. It’s a very special flower: it does not grow by itself and can’t be found and cut; it can only be obtained using magic. Along with it, I request that you pass a note to Juliette.
This flower makes my head spin and sets my heart aflutter. And... a note from the Detective asking for a date? Oh my, I don’t know... But he’s been so persistent... Very well, tell him I said yes.
-
Dangerous magic
Juliette
Phalaenopsys stuartiana is very beautiful indeed, but it has an ominous side to it. Only a carnivorous flower could attract my Mistress’s attention. Thank you, you’ve really helped me out! I’ll take it to my Mistress.
-
Flower magic
Detective
Look how this flower shines and shimmers in the dark - it’s surrounded by a magic aura. I hope Juliette will now think of me.
-
Time for a drink
Detective
She didn’t even ask about me? All my efforts only make Juliette dwell on her past. I have insomnia from this so I can’t consult Nero Wolfe as he only appears in my dreams. I think a shot or two of good old whiskey would help me fall asleep. You’re the only one allowed into the cafe, could you bring me what I need?
Oh, my head hurts from yesterday’s whiskey! On a positive side: Nero Wolfe paid me a visit and told me something important!
-
Juliette’s memories
Juliette
Such a wonderful scent! It again reminds me of my missing beloved. I remember silent nights like this when he waited near the gates. I came to him and we often talked through the night... By the way, did you notice the dark Manor windows? The Mistress has horrible mood swings; today she broke all the lamps in anger. It’s so dark I can’t find my way back. Will you bring me a kerosene lantern?
Thank you, now I can safely return home. It’s already late and my Mistress is probably looking for me. Will you visit me again? Until tomorrow, then.
-
Third orchid
Detective
Can this perfume have that much power over a woman’s heart? Now to find a suitable orchid to sprinkle it on.
This orchid is even more beautiful than the previous two. Let’s sprinkle it with the perfume... What an aroma - my head is spinning! I doubt the scent will fade quickly, but please hurry anyway; take it to Juliette.
-
Exciting aroma
Valerie
Hi, long time no see. You’re interested in perfume? I know one that has a smell no man or woman can resist! You won’t believe it, but I’m searching for it, too - there’s a man whose attention I desire. This statue has a hidden stash of perfume and we’ll need two flasks...
We both have what we were searching for. Wish him luck from me.
-
Five vases
Juliette
I’ve never seen flowers so beautiful! The person who sends them to me must be very romantic. What was his name? Too bad I don’t have the time to talk about him. We have so many flowers there’s no place for them. The Mistress told me to bring some vases. We can find some in the City - shall we look?
Thank you again for your help, I’ll go arrange the flowers. I’ll put yours into the most beautiful vase - it reminds me of a lad I liked long ago. He came here often but one day he disappeared. I’ve longed to meet him ever since.
-
Flower of paradise
Detective
She liked the flower but didn’t ask for my name? Hmm... We must find an even more peculiar orchid! I heard of the Cattleya Mossiae, a rare type. Could you find it for me?
Yes, that’s it! Nero Wolfe described it as the flower that looks like a bird of paradise. I’m sure Juliette will like it.
-
So much work
Juliette
What an amusing flower, thank you! It’s my job to collect the flowers near the gates and bring them into the house, but today there are millions of them. I’m so tired from working in the sun; could you bring me a glass of juice?
Thank you, that’s very nice of you. Please come again; I’d be glad to talk to you in my free time.
-
Orchid for Juliette
Detective
All flowers in the City are snapped up by the Mistress’s fans and brought to the Manor Gate. Maybe there’s an orchid among them.
Here’s an orchid called Miltonia Roezlii - a peculiar flower. Would you give it to Juliette for me?
-
A present for Valerie
Alex
I’m so glad the Mirror Lady story has ended! I even slept well last night - like a log! All thanks to you and Valerie. I’d love to give Valerie a present - after all, it was her idea. I’d have been lost without her. Help me find a suitable gift, please.
That’s what I need. Elegant and mysterious, Valerie will love it. And no ominous auras, I can tell. I have a gift for Valerie, I owe a favor to Martha, but I have no idea how to repay you. If you ever need my help, just call and I’ll be sure to do so. Thank you!
-
The Skull and the Cup
Alex
The Skull and the Cup. Bring them back! The Cup of Youth is mine, mine only! Get it from the Collector or else...
Alex looks really bad. We should hurry and help Martha with the ritual.
-
Ghost Busters
Valerie
The Mirror Lady is desperate to get our attention; Martha’s house is guarded by five ghosts! I’m sure our Lady had a hand in it. If she still has hands, of course. It’s great Martha’s such a fearless person, but we need to get into her house. We must fight through.
Martha do you hear me? We’re here! We brought the shirt!
-
Search for a Crafty Hand
Alex
I could ask Juliette for help. She’s a maid in the Manor and I saw her embroidery - masterful! We could visit her now but it would be better at night - her mistress is very strict. Also, it would be better keep out of her sight since the Skull went missing.
Saint Mary, of course I’ll help you. I have everything I need right here. Would you agree that such diligence is rare in this city? Oh, that’s such crude work; you’re not going to wear this are you?
-
Old Fairytale
Huntress
Mm... October beer; what could be better? Here, take the nettle shirt. Oops! I completely forgot about the huge hole on the shoulder. It’s unfortunate, but I can’t fix it. You’ll have to find someone else to do it.
-
Let her talk
Martha
Wow! I never imagined I’d see the skull of Count Dracula. This artifact was lost long ago - it’s unrivalled at pacifying the most evil spirits, so it’s good to have it. Now, while you explored the Manor I had a couple of ideas about the Mirror Lady. Alex, did you notice that since we... met her she hasn’t said a word? She wants our attention, but for some reason can’t talk. Let’s ask the Huntress what we can do to help her.
Good evening! Let me guess, you have urgent business with me? The Medium sent you to ask if I could make the ghost talk. It seems more like her area but, surprisingly, you came to the right place.
-
Search for the Skull
Martha
Unfortunately, I can’t help you further - the Manor is inaccessible to me. The Mistress is too powerful an enemy and I’ll not let her have me. Either Alex gets used to his nightmares or you go there alone. But I will say one thing: the lady in the portrait has a skull on her lap - a skull with strange fangs! My intuition tells me this detail is important.
Unbelievable - this skull definitely has fangs! I’ll never get used to the wonders of this world. I’m not scared - excited mostly! Before, I only experienced such things in books or movies. Of course, a world with elves and dragons would be even better, but this is great, too! Don’t worry, Alex, we’ll take this skull to Martha and the ghosts will soon leave you alone!
-
The Room beyond
Martha
We have to reach the room beyond the mirror. To do so we must assemble here in the middle of the night and I will dissolve the border between the worlds with a simple rite. No, we won’t need any sacrifices. Meet me here tonight!
Look! On the wall is a portrait of the lady who haunted poor Alex! And beyond the window is an estate’s courtyard! Its Mistress is somehow involved so it won’t be easy to get rid of the ghost...
-
Lady in the Mirror
Martha
Please excuse this mess; I’ve just been visited by a ghost. A lady in white came out of my mirror and attacked me. I grabbed my broom and chased her away... Of course I’ll check your mirror once I sort out this trouble. What else did you expect coming in so suddenly?
Thank you for your help. But you couldn’t find the Mirror Lady? That’s actually disturbing... I’m almost sure the ghost outbreak is connected to the artifact you brought me.
-
Valerie worries
Valerie
I want to talk about Alex - did you notice anything... strange about him? Well, aside from not having any memories of himself. During the last week he became paler and sadder than usual and I think he spends nights away from home. I met him in City Hall recently, but he refused to talk and hid. Can we search for him together? I think he trusts you more.
-
The Last Component
Cardsharp
We’ve found nearly all the necessary components! Now we just need to find a glass of good whiskey!
You’re a great partner! With your talent and my ideas, we’ll prepare an excellent cocktail.
-
Cocktail Cup
Huntress
I have the Nautilus Cup. Or rather, I had it. Two weeks ago I lost it in a skirmish with a pair of werewolves. I easily defeated the first one, but the second werewolf grabbed my bag and ran away! The cup is yours if you manage to find it.
That will do nicely! I hope the werewolf got what it deserved. If you mix a cocktail and share it with me I’ll tell you what I know about the Bartender.
-
Tequila for Allex
Alex
I’m so glad you found the Conductor. The rumors of you being the main suspect were hardly believable, but the fact you can get booze from the Red Rose - that’s the real deal! I have an unusual request for you. I once said I don’t remember my past, but I recently tried a drop of tequila and my memories started returning! Bring me some tequila from the Café and my debt to you would be immeasurable!
I am so grateful to you! Now I need to be alone to concentrate.
-
Good deal
Cardsharp
So you found the old drunkard? I never doubted you, but that Detective’s sly, getting you to do his dirty work. Dragging through the stations in this weather - dreadful, right? You should choose your friends more carefully. Take me, for example. I have a good deal for you, here. A bit of work and you’ll get paid quickly, what do you think? Bring me an envelope bearing a red rose from the Collector’s Room. Red roses, see what I mean? But only go at night, it’s safer that way.
Thank you! I knew you wouldn’t fail. The Huntress gambled away this envelope to the Collector soon after the Bartender’s disappearance. When you and the Detective started digging into this case I thought it was better to have it with me.
-
Fog at the station
Detective
Get out of here! Why can’t you all just leave me alone? This is useless... I’ve lost... everything. I don’t know if my daughters have grown, I didn’t tell Mary I love her. Damn booze! I wouldn’t have left the house that night if I was sober! This is the last bottle; take it and get lost!
-
Huntress’s agreement
Huntress
You want to ask about the Red Rose bartender? “If she hunts monsters, she must be a drinker.” Actually, you’re right, but I’ll not tell you anything until you bring me something to drink. Do I deserve less than the Cardsharp or the Conductor? Write it down - this cocktail is called “Werewolf’s Blood”. It isn’t the “Bartender’s Nightmare” but it will do. Bring it to me and we’ll talk. Don’t disturb me until then.
Yes, that’s it! I’d lost hope of tasting it ever again. It’s so much better than this foul, cheap whiskey. You did your part - ask away.
-
Detective at work
Detective
This is indeed the Bartender’s hat. A prominent thing, even though it’s worn out... Sorry, I can’t concentrate - I didn’t sleep last night and I’m not thinking clearly this evening. A cup of coffee would help me.
Thank you! Your find helped me in the Bartender’s case. Under the hat’s lining was a document, very important to all of us. It looks like part of the “Bartender’s Nightmare” recipe. I suppose he had a reason to hide it. I’ll try to decipher it. You could talk to the Huntress - she was a regular visitor to the Red Rose and probably knows the Bartender better than most.
-
Disappearing bartender
Isabelle
There’s a rumor you’re getting drinks from the Red Rose. How do you do it? I guess you already know of the Invisible Bartender? He went missing the day the car crashed into the Angel Statue. The Detective didn’t let anyone onto the scene but after the barriers were removed the Café just never opened again. We can only guess what happened back there... If you don’t object, maybe you can investigate the crash? Perhaps you’ll find a trace of the Bartender.
You’re back so soon! Isn’t that the bartender’s hat? Everyone knows it around here. When the Café was open it always hung behind the counter... The Bartender seems to have visited the car crash before disappearing. You’ll have to check with the Detective.
-
Invigorating absinth
Cardsharp
Hey, wait! I have a question for you. A matter of life and death! I saw the Conductor walking unsteadily from the Café. I know you got him some beer from there, right? Since you helped him, maybe you could bring me some Absinth from there?
Mm... The nectar of the gods! Too bad I’ve no one to play cards with, like the good old days... Only thing I allowed myself to drink during a card game was a “Bartender’s Nightmare” cocktail, served by an invisible bartender, can you believe?
-
Alluring beer
Conductor
Look! There’s someone in the Café. Or am I imaging things? No one’s been able to enter there for a long time, which is too bad - the beer was excellent. Martha says you have... er... talents. If you can enter, please bring me a mug of beer; I miss it so much.
This is the real deal! There’s only one thing better - the famed cocktail “Bartender’s Nightmare”. I was once a railway station warden. Had a house, a wife and three kids... Then, one evening, I drank too much beer. The night was dark but I suddenly had the urge to check on the railway. My wife tried to stop me, but I took the lamp and left. It was quiet and desolate as I crossed the platform and a dark fog swirled ahead. I stepped in it and here I am...
-
Would be good.
Martha
I’m back! What happened? I found Count Cagliostro and he recognised me. He listened to me but refused to lift the curse! I think I made him too mad that day. He said that he’d think about it but, alas, the Red Rose is still shut down. I just hope that somewhere in time, past or future, the Count will reconsider and open the café doors for all of us.
-
Back to the Past
Cardsharp
Even my top hat shivers with anticipation. My long-standing dream seems about to come true. Thanks to this clock I’ll be able to go back in time to the day I met Count Cagliostro and persuade him to forgive me. Now to assemble the clock.
Turn the hands back and then... It begins! Look, I’m disappearing! No, wait, the clock is still in your hands. Give it to me or I won’t be able to come ba-a-a-ack...
-
Collector’s voice
Cardsharp
Projector died and it’s quiet again. Amazing! The Collector is long gone but his spirit lives in his items, in the clues he left behind and in the room he spent so much time in. Now we must search for the clock case.
That’s it - the case for the Collector’s amazing clock. Now we can assemble it.
-
Clock Face
Cardsharp
Now we know we need a dial, the search has become easier. Only the fourth part of the Collector’s watch is left to find.
We have hands, gears, a chain and a dial. Not much is left, but I don’t know what exactly. But thinking about it, all these parts should be secured into a case, right?
