Ave, Caesar
Detective
Mr. N considers himself a genius, and bad acting unnerves him. The plan is simple: five volunteers put on prop crowns and then give a poor performance so that Nathaniel gets angry and comes out to stop it. Then Martha will have a surprise waiting for him. First, find the Conqueror’s Helmet.
That’s the conquering emperor’s helmet! The perfect part for me. On your knees, slaves, behold my imperial power, ha-ha! Hmm, I like it.
-
Family Recipe
Huntress
You’ve procured wonderful ingredients for my strudel. Together they create a terrific taste, mein freund! My sister was still very little, but I could already help mother with cooking... Everything is almost ready for the contest. Why don’t we add some autumn magic to the strudel?
I was so afraid that the family strudel recipe was completely erased from my memory, but your support inspired me. Just look at this delicacy! The first slice is yours, and then I’ll go to the Fair and enter the competition. In memory of my mother.
-
Court Treat
Lady Peacock
I’m not taking part in the culinary competition. Alas, princesses are not taught to cook. But I know for sure that some Candied Citrus Fruits will add an exquisite sourness to the Huntress’s strudel. Will you look for them?
There are no citrus fruits where the Huntress is from, so candied fruits were brought in by sea for the fairs. I think the Huntress’s mother used to add candied fruits to the dish on holidays.
-
Dried Sunshine
Detective
Our ladies have shown tremendous selflessness in their desire to help the Huntress bake the strudel for the competition, even if it means defeat for themselves. Let’s find some Dried Apricots for the strudel, buddy. It will add to the taste.
These Dried Apricots will help the Huntress bake a real culinary masterpiece. I hope she will let us taste it after winning the contest. Just don’t mention anything about my help!
-
Strudel‘s Heart
Juliette
Despite the painful nostalgia remembering her family, the Huntress has decided to bake her mother’s strudel for the contest! It’s worthy of praise and aid. Mon ami, look for some Apple Slices, as they are the foundation of the strudel.
Those Apple Slices are still very fresh. Hurry, take them to the Huntress so she can mix the apples with breadcrumbs and sugar, and add them to the strudel!
-
Nutty Taste
Isabelle
I've noticed you at the Fair, looking for raisins for the Huntress's strudel. She is too proud to ask others for help, but I still want her dish to succeed. Look for walnuts, they will add a bit of bitterness.
Wow, those are some strong Walnuts you found! Well, good luck to the Huntress with her strudel. I sincerely wish her victory in the culinary contest.
-
Add Raisins
Huntress
I’ve already prepared the dough for the strudel and there’s nothing special or complicated about it. As mein Mutter used to say, "a real German strudel needs raisins." I’ll need a handful or two of Raisins. Could you look for them for me?
This is the first time I’ve had such golden raisins for my strudel. In my childhood, the raisins were black and small. Thank you. My pity mother will never taste my strudel.
-
Shadow Rod
Martha
The Secret Room greatly helped us not only to investigate and prevent the ritual of the Scarlet Star, but also to get acquainted with the Order of Five, albeit in absentia. These people created and protected the City. I will try to perform a ritual in the Secret Room to ask them for protection and assistance through space and time. Help me.
The evidence associated with the Scarlet Star is imbued with the fearsome magic of the Shadow. Order of Five, protect us from the minions of darkness! My power unites the evidence with the artifacts... Such a magnificent artifact has appeared before us! I feel that it can avert the Shadow’s sinister charms!
-
Flower of Knowledge
Martha
I’m sure the unseen judges of the Japanese Garden are not going to leave us without a reward. After all, we passed the Trial of Mastery and deserve to receive the perfect cherry blossom. Let’s gather all the rewards that our champions received during the Trial and I’ll call on the magic of the City to get us the cherry blossom.
The magic of the City is filling the rewards we received during the Trial: the warrior’s helmet, the creator’s bonsai, the poet’s box... The petals of dozens of cherry trees come into motion, the whole Garden is filling with light... Here it is, the perfect cherry blossom! I hope it’s not scary to know the essence of things...
-
Animated Room
Isabelle
I feel an extraordinary flow of energy through the slightly open door. It’s as if the space within the Secret Room changes every second! Let’s muster our courage and enter. I want to see the legend with my own eyes. And we must save Juliette!
The Secret Room’s unusual items remind me both of a detective’s and a scientist’s office. There is something sinister about it... But I believe that the Secret Room is our ally. And our only chance to save Juliette before it’s too late.
-
Non-Existing Door
Detective
We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!
The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!
-
Mysterious Trial
Isabelle
The strange scroll talked about achieving perfection. Doesn’t this imply some kind of competition, duel, or special equipment? Let’s take a closer look at the Japanese Garden to understand exactly what was meant by a "trial."
The air smells so good here... Just look at these cherry trees, the carved Japanese house, the lanterns on the flowering branches, and the pond full of carp! But it’s much more complicated than we imagined. I’m afraid that this Trial involves mastering various disciplines in the spirit of Japanese traditions.
-
Garden of Perfection
Detective
We’re one step away from entering the location. What will we find there? New mysteries of the City are waiting to be uncovered. Go on, enter!
The location is now open! Do you feel the pull of new adventures? The magic of the City is calling out to us!
-
Ritual Gifts
Juliette
Together with our traditions experts, you have done a great job. Each of the animals you’ve found are associated with the New Year. I’m ready for the ritual. Let’s make the Eastern Dog happy with gifts so this year will be a generous one. Will you find artifacts to strengthen the ritual?
The symbolic animals have been placed, and I will begin the ritual. The divine Dog itself appears in the golden light! Her puppies play with the gifts. The Dog’s gaze is tranquil and soft. A blessed year awaits us!
-
Northern Horse
Huntress
Can you think of any other western symbolic animals to indulge the Eastern Dog with? Sweden gave us the carved wooden Dala horses, which are made by children and adults alike. Find a red horse.
The tailless Dala Horse has become a symbol of the New Year in northern countries. By the way, Juliette would really like one. We should look for a second one.
-
Love for Life
Lady Peacock
I know a lot about Chinese holiday traditions, my friend. The most desired gift for the New Year is a precious Golden Carp. It’s the hardiest and liveliest of fishes! Look for a carp.
They say that the carp represents life. It’s able to overcome all obstacles, to pass through all gates. A powerful talisman for the New Year Dog and her puppies!
-
From a Nation of Ice
Conductor
The Eskimos have unique New Year’s relics... For example, figurines of animals made from walrus bone. Have a look around the City. You should find a walrus made of ivory there somewhere. The Eskimos give it for good luck in the New Year. It would be nice to give it to the Eastern Dog.
Take the Eskimos’ Walrus to Martha. The Dog’s puppies should be happy with it. I hope this year will be as generous to us as we’re being now. Ha-ha!
-
Horns and Hooves
Juliette
Let’s give the divine puppies the gift of a straw Christmas Goat, mon ami! In Sweden they call it the Julebukk. Go and look for this charming goat.
Take this goat to Martha! Scandinavians adore it, but the Julebukk has its roots somewhere in Germany. If you find another one, give it to the Huntress!
-
Keeper of the West
Detective
Bears are the ultimate symbol of the West! Especially the Zuni bears. I learned about their culture back in college. The Zuni call bears the “Guardians of the West” and give each other stone statues of them. Help me find some “Native American woodcarved bears”!
The Zuni believe that this bear charm has the power to heal and turn passions into wisdom. I think the Eastern ancestral spirits will like this approach, buddy!
-
Entry By Invitation
Juliette
Valerie will get her perfect shoes! There’s a magical Shoe Shop in the City, but entry is by invitation only. Perhaps we can exchange the pairs we found and some artifacts for an entrance pass for our friend? Collect some artifacts for a successful transaction.
I contacted Cardsharp. He has some connections in the City. Congratulations! Here’s an invitation to the magical shoe shop. Let’s give it to Valerie. There’s still time before the dance. I’m sure that the shoemakers will create the perfect pair for her.
-
Grace of the East
Lady Peacock
In the East, there are legends about magical shoes. Maybe they will suit Valerie? In marvelous, seven-league Arabian Shoes their owner glides across the dance hall like the wind. Try to find them.
The seven-league Arabian Shoes really do exist! But I think this flamboyant style will not suit Valerie’s elegant image. We want her to be admirable, yes?
-
Wild Dancing
Detective
I know what can help Valerie impress Alex at the dance party... I heard tales of Red Slippers that make a person burst into dance. Go and look for them. I think they’ll suit our lady.
The Red Slippers fit Valerie perfectly. But she can’t stop! Dancing has consumed her. Let’s take the shoes off Valerie before they completely exhaust her.
-
Sparkle Like a Diamond
Cardsharp
Are you looking for enchanted shoes for Valerie? I recently came across a peculiar pair. I thought they were diamond shoes, but it turned out they were just glass. I sold them pretty cheaply. Have a look for them in the City.
You managed to find the Glass Slippers! But let’s be honest, these slippers would only fit Cinderella, and it seems to me that Valerie will have a hard time putting them on.
-
Divine Pair
Martha
Magic shoes for dancing? It’s risky business, but I won’t try to dissuade Valerie. Have you heard of Mercury’s legendary sandals? They say that the Roman god himself wore them. Try looking for them.
Mercury’s actual Winged Sandals! Valerie happily soared into the sky, but she cannot handle the shoes of the god. Let’s look for something safer.
-
Happy Feet
Conductor
Valerie is going to a dance party and needs a new pair of shoes. The City is the place to get hold of enchanted items. I once heard about the Galoshes of Happiness, which supposedly fulfill wishes. Our little darling could use some happiness. Will you look for the galoshes?
Great job! But I’m afraid these Galoshes of Happiness won’t suit our Valerie. I chose the wrong style of shoes. On the other hand, they’ll definitely fit me!
-
Emperor’s Wand
Martha
We’ve assembled all the sacred Chinese relics that make up the ancient Emperor’s Wand - the Ruyi Scepter. The Monk has agreed to help me with the Eastern ritual. Please collect some artifacts so that we can use their power to reconstruct the Ruyi Scepter.
The parts of the Ruyi Scepter are arranged in the correct order according to the ancient scroll. Magical runes and sacred hieroglyphs sparkle, filling with the magic of the City and the power of the ancestors. The great Eastern relic - the Ruyi Scepter - is once again returned to the world! We did it!
-
Hidden Dragon
Isabelle
I’m not an expert in Eastern magic, but I definitely noticed one trend: no matter the relic, there’ll always be a dragon on it. Even if just a small and stylized one. Find a Dragon for the Scepter that Martha’s recreating.
That’s a very stylized Dragon - you wouldn’t even guess it was a dragon at first glance. I’m certain that it sits on the tip of the Ruyi Scepter. Take it to Martha.
-
Healing Foundation
Monk
The Ruyi Scepter - or Emperor’s Wand - truly has the power to point the way to one’s desire. I can’t be left out of restoring the relic of my people. Look for a stylized Lingzhi Mushroom, it’s the base of the Scepter.
A Lingzhi Mushroom made of precious jade - an indispensable part of the Ruyi Scepter. According to legend, it’s sprinkled with tears and can heal a hundred illnesses.
-
Eerie Luck
Detective
Martha showed me the scroll with the Ruyi Scepter engraving so that I could help search for its parts. These Chinese people sure are creative: they shaped the tip of the Scepter like a bat! Shall we look for it?
The Chinese Bat is not nearly as sinister as the one we have in the West. Martha said that it’s also a symbol of luck. The main thing is that it fits the Scepter.
-
Slightly Sour Fruit
Lady Peacock
Martha is a real expert on artifacts. No wonder she became interested in the Ruyi Scepter. I’ve seen some references to it. According to legend, the Scepter’s body was adorned with a Pomegranate Sprout. Will you look for it?
A Pomegranate Sprout for the Ruyi Scepter! It symbolized fertility and posterity. I read that a scepter with a symbol like this belonged to the heirs to the throne!
-
Blossoming and Wealth
Martha
The Ruyi Scepter could help us make significant progress in finding the way to the center of the City. The relic is the result of the intertwining of powerful symbols that are revered in China. The engravings indicate that its core is bent like the stems of a peony. Look for a Peony Flower.
Great work! The Peony Flower was considered a symbol of wealth and noble origin in the Empire. Not surprising, then, that it became the core of the Ruyi Scepter.
-
Brave New World
Detective
Juliette is saved, the terrible Scarlet Star artifact has lost its power and the Shadow can no longer summon great evil into the world. What happened to the spirits of the maniacs who failed to enter Jul’s body? Do they wander the City? Where did the Order of Five go? Secret Room, we need answers.\n In the meantime, let’s celebrate a new reality, buddy!
-
Key to Reality
Isabelle
I haven’t encountered City artifacts more powerful than the inventions of the Order of Five. Who were these people?! Each find brought us closer to the scene of the Scarlet Star ritual, but how do we interrupt it? I call on the power of the City to help us get the Order of Five’s anti-artifact! Juliette, hold on, we’re coming!
The Order of Five’s inventions are surrounded by an aura containing all the colors of magic! In the air above them, sparkling with power, the critical artifact appears. On its face is the image of the Scarlet Star and some symbols... And an engraving on the other side: "We can change reality. Leo."
-
Weightless Time
Isabelle
The Order of Five was fighting the Shadow. Their inventions clearly show it! But our findings won’t stop the Scarlet Star. I feel an emerging anomaly. Here, in the Secret Room! That hourglass is revolving by itself and inside it is zero gravity! Bring me this vessel!
I can’t believe that the weightlessness anomaly in the vessel is the same as Juliette’s magical shackles! How did the Shadow get his hands on the Order’s inventions? Now we can break Jul’s chains!
-
No One’s Home
Martha
I feel that the soul transfer ritual has started and the rise of the Scarlet Star is beginning! What legacy could the Order of Five leave behind to stop this diabolical act? Lights went on in a tiny dollhouse on the dresser. Is it a sign? Bring me the house.
This is not a dollhouse, but a magical Architectural Model! What stunning accuracy... Its creator left a note with instructions. This will help us stop the Scarlet Star!
-
Mechanical Assistant
Professor
Are you surprised to see me here? Isabelle asked me to help you with strange inventions. I remember the cute blonde and I hope that these devices will help save her. What is that knocking sound? A dove is knocking on the window. Let the bird in. Ha, it’s mechanical! Catch the dove!
I’ve come across the Puppeteer’s works before and this mechanical dove is one of them. This bird will lead us to the Scarlet Star if we give it the coordinates.
-
Star Trap
Isabelle
The members of the Order of Five were inventive. But which of their inventions can stop the Scarlet Star and save Juliette? Look, something is circling the chandelier. At first I thought those were just balloons. But no, the chandelier turned into a Model of the Galaxy! Get it, please.
The Model of the Galaxy is stunningly accurate! I saw something similar in the Laboratory of Time. So, its owner is from the Order? The model will help us find the Scarlet Star.
-
Documentary Filming
Detective
The Order of Five had an anti-artifact capable of destroying the Scarlet Star and saving my Jul. But how do we find it if we don’t know anything about the Order?! The room has grown darker and a projection appeared on the wall! Five people are gathered around the sixth. The film was interrupted, but there must be a projector or a camera somewhere here! Let’s look!
I swear on my badge that I saw the blueprints of such a camera in the Collector’s Room! Isabelle says that the film records the invisible and that we will be able to see the Scarlet Star.
-
Wheel of Rebirth
Martha
The Shadow definitely didn’t summon just any killers. He needed special individuals carefully selected from different countries and eras. I will perform a ritual on the Indian evidence and learn the identity of the criminal related to the third abduction. Only in this way will we know how the Shadow intends to use the souls of maniacs in his fight against the Order of Five. Are you ready?
The belongings of the Indian killer are enveloped in smoke that looks like snakes. The City’s artifacts are holding back its evil power! I see... a figure with many arms dancing in the smoke! The Secret Room materializes the Death tarot card. The many-armed goddess Kali is replaced by a plain-looking man...
-
Deadly Decoration
Mistress
I don’t know how the lowly souls of maniacs will help the Shadow defeat the Order of Five, but my maid must return to the Manor immediately!\n The mosaic on the wall exploded into skull-shaped pieces, which formed a necklace in the air. Find it in the Secret Room!
Hardly any of you know that this necklace of death is characteristic of the Indian goddess Kali. Figure out how it relates to the identity of the murderer.
-
Sinister Reward
Cardsharp
I don’t know how the killers will help the Shadow deal with the Order of Five, but I wouldn’t want to be there! Can you hear a noise in the ventilation? I asked the Conductor to check. My hands put food on the table, so the risk is not justified! Coins started pouring out of there! Here’s a purse. Collect our reward.
Are you sure that these wonderful new rupees are evidence and not a reward for our work? A pity, truly. Do you think the third killer took payment for his crimes?
-
Death by Strangulation
Lady Peacock
I don’t know how dead villains can harm the Order of Five. We would do better to send them for reincarnation... Look, the shadow of a strangled woman on the wall! A moment later the shadow disappeared, yet the noose, on the contrary, became real. Find it. It looks like a yellow handkerchief.
I’m afraid I recognize this white and yellow handkerchief. They call it a Rumal in my homeland. In India, there are thugs that kill people with such handkerchiefs. I even heard that they were rakshasa demons!
-
Silent Wings
Huntress
The souls of three maniacs will help the Shadow fulfill a certain prophecy. But how does it lead to victory over the Order of Five and what role does Jul have in this madness? Damn, an owl just flew out of the chimney! I almost shot the creature, but managed to restrain myself. Catch it in the Secret Room!
The owl is very aggressive! What is the Secret Room trying to tell us? Was the third killer a nocturnal hunter? Or another sorcerer? There are ritual jewels on the owl’s feet.
-
Don’t Dig One Hole to Another
Valerie
How is the Shadow going to use the souls of villains against the Order of Five, which is protecting us?! Though I didn’t even know we had protectors. Oh, my God! I was raking the coals in the fireplace with a poker when suddenly it turned into a hoe and the fireplace turned into a grave! I got scared and tossed the hoe away. Will you find it in the Secret Room?
The nightmare hoe is not at all like the ones I saw at the farm as a child. This one has patterns on its blade... Do you think the third killer dug graves for his victims with it?
-
Fairy Tale Origins
Martha
The clues you found point to a bloodthirsty maniac and bear the mark of witchcraft. Dark and primitive. I’ll perform a ritual to reveal the identity of the criminal connected to the second abduction. When we find out who he is, we will also learn the reasons that prompted the Shadow to summon the souls of maniacs to the City. Oh City, help me!
The bloody evidence from the second crime scene is enveloped by a red blaze of demonic force. This criminal practiced witchcraft and made demonic sacrifices! The Secret Room materializes the Magician tarot card with the portrait of Gilles de Rais, also known as Bluebeard!
-
Precious Liquid
Huntress
I don’t know why the Shadow and his minions are summoning the souls of maniacs into the City, but I will not let it stand! Whoa! A hunting crossbow just fired at me from the weapons rack. I barely dodged it. Some sort of flask was tied to the arrow. Look for it.
I swear by my sword that there is blood in this Magical Flask! The second killer is not just a maniac, he used the blood of his victims for alchemist rituals! Or worse.
-
From Young to Old
Detective
The Shadow mentioned in his letter that he needs the souls of maniacs to fulfill a prophecy. But who was the second "famous" killer he summoned? A huge marionette just fell into the fireplace and burned down to the... bones. Like a living being. Find these bones, buddy.
Wow, these bones were clearly used for black magic! And they are all so small... as if from a child! What awful maniac could have done this?
-
All the Best for the Children
Lady
I know little about the City’s foundations, but why would the Shadow Cult summon notorious murderers here? The Secret Room is also scaring me with its hints... I just saw a child holding a spooky doll in the mirror! The child is gone, and the doll is somewhere in the room... Will you find it?
This antique doll looks like it was tortured or even executed... Was the second maniac responsible for the deaths of children?! Or are we talking about ritual murders?
-
Searching for a Woman
Cardsharp
Why would the Shadow summon the souls of maniacs into the City? Maybe the lovely ladies from the precious rug will tell us? No, Cardsharp isn’t going mad. The rug’s pattern has changed and it now shows dancing women with gold medallions. Please believe my expert eye! Collect the jewelry.
Medieval French Commemorative Medallions. Your old pal Cardsharp really appreciates expensive antiques! Each medallion has a woman’s portrait on it. Is this a victim or a criminal?
-
Secret Under Lock and Key
Conductor
I don’t even want to think about why the Shadow Cult needed to summon the ghosts of evildoers into the City! As if we don’t have enough troubles of our own. I was examining the Secret Room when a secret door opened in the wall. I swear it wasn’t there before! And inside there was a suspicious key sticking out of the keyhole. Could you find it?
The Cursed Key has a blood stain on it that won’t go away! It seems we’re dealing with a killer who has had many victims. Did he lock them up somewhere?
-
Devil’s Dance
Martha
The Secret Room gave you enough evidence to perform a ritual and call on the power of the City to reveal the identity of the criminal behind the first abduction. If we find out who he is, we will also learn about the Shadow’s goals connected with the rituals. Help me prepare. These clues have an extremely dark aura.
Dark energy envelops evidence from the first crime scene. I feel the blood, the horror, the smell of cheap perfume and alcohol... Murder weapons and the belongings of the unfortunate victim flash before us and the Devil tarot card appears on the table. The Devil has the face of Jack the Ripper!
-
Hold for Pickup
Detective
Why did the Shadow Cult involve some British upper class gentleman in this dirty abduction? On the fireplace sits a snow globe with views of London and a blizzard roaring inside it! The globe burst and the blizzard swept through the room, pulling off the curtains! What is this? A parcel? Let’s find it!
This Sinister Parcel is smeared with blood and is addressed to the London police. Let me look inside... Oh. I guess I won’t be eating anything today. We’re dealing with a maniac!
-
Hat Business
Inspector
This Room is living its own life! I hope that this whole spectacle points us not only to the evidence from the first crime, but also to the Shadow’s motives. My own shadow started dancing on the wall and at the end it threw off its hat. A real hat! Could you look for it?
This is no ordinary hat. I would say that it belonged to a British gentleman from the end of the last century. So the Shadow commands a killer from high society?
-
Butcher
Lady Peacock
The Shadow Cult abducts people and conducts vile rituals. But why? I was admiring a woman’s portrait with changing faces in the Secret Room. But suddenly the candle’s flame engulfed the picture and completely burned it up! I think I saw a knife in the cache behind it... Could you find it?
This huge Carving Knife looks evil. Is this rust or blood stains? It seems there’s an engraving on the blade... 1888. Was this when the murderer committed his crimes?
-
Two-Faced
Mayor
I saw a rag doll with two faces blink! Is the Secret Room hinting at the first victim? The hideous doll came apart at the seams in my hands and inside it I found a worn out purse. Maybe it belonged to the abducted lady? Look for the purse in the Secret Room.
This purse has a rather festive appearance. I knew the missing lady. She was very progressive for her time. Is the Secret Room saying that the killer was hunting bold women?
-
Sinister Veil
Valerie
I was searching the Secret Room for evidence from the first abduction when I heard a strange knocking from the wall. As if someone was trapped inside! What if it’s the first victim of the ritual?! The plaster is crumbling! There’s a hole in the wall and in it a shawl with suspicious stains. Yikes! Find this shawl. I won’t touch it!
It’s definitely a woman’s shawl with paint stains. Should we be afraid of a woman or an artist? Although I’m now starting to think that this isn’t paint... But what can it tell us about the Shadow’s goals?
-
A Trail in the Darkness
Martha
The Secret Room revealed clues shrouded in an ominous aura. They create a magical backdrop strong enough to invoke the power of the City in a ritual in order to get a hint from the Secret Room. Then we’ll know who kidnapped Juliette. Prepare everything for the ritual.
Dark smoke bursts out from the clues you found, but the white magic of the artifacts is suppressing it! There is a silent explosion and the Judgment Day tarot card appears on the table... But instead of dead souls it depicts the Shadow Cult devotees and in place of the Angel of Death is the Shadow himself! They abducted Juliette!
-
Making the Impossible Possible
Isabelle
The Secret Room is hinting at Juliette’s abductors using extremely unpleasant signs. A vase just fell off the table and spilled something red on the floor. The geometric lines have outlined the door of a hiding place and in it I noticed something resembling an Impossible Triangle. Could you find it?
The Impossible Triangle is a figure that denies order and logic. It looks like this puzzle was used as a portal! I feel the residual energy of teleportation.
-
A Sip of Freedom
Conductor
How will these poltergeists lead us to Jul’s abductors? The bottles in the bar just popped all their corks and started puffing out smoke and bubbles. It’s as if they’re alive... And one bottle rolled out and was gone. Isabelle says it had chaos signs on it. I wouldn’t want to drink from a bottle like that... Will you find the bottle?
Isabelle has strictly forbidden me to drink from this... chaos essence. She says one sip is enough to start denying any laws and values. So Jul’s abductor is a rebel?
-
Follow Your Eyes
Huntress
The Secret Room is sending us some very strange signs to lead us to Juliette’s captors! I noticed the eye of one of the statues moving! It has a weird frame, like a compass. I’ll watch this horror to make sure it doesn’t do anything while you check the eye.
A compass with a living human eye?! I’m not a sissy, but it’s disgusting even for me! The eye follows the arrow, which points to the part of the City hidden by the fog!
-
At All Costs
Valerie
Are you sure that the Secret Room is telling us who kidnapped Juliette? It’s scaring me! A cup appeared on the table and there was something nasty and black inside! I dropped the cup and saw a glimpse of a golden framed obsidian capsule pendant in the murky liquid. Will you look for it?
Martha says that this Obsidian Capsule contains a fast-acting magical poison. Do you think the kidnapper wore it so that he could commit suicide in case of an emergency? Yes, he’s crazy!
-
Hidden Face
Detective
Nobody knows how to interact with the Secret Room. I just hope that it knows what kind of help we are looking for. Hey! A stuffed crow just came alive and dived right towards my head! I threw a book at the thing, but it dodged and dropped something dark, like a hood. Look for it in the Secret Room.
This creepy Dark Hood was worn by Juliette’s abductor. Let’s think: what does this tell us about the criminal’s identity? My bet is on a secret organization or a sect.
-
He Who Has Eyes
Inspector
The Secret Room has finally opened and expressed the desire to help investigate Juliette’s sinister abduction. It strongly resembles similar unsolved crimes from the past. Can we decipher all the clues and help Juliette before it’s too late? Hurry, put everything we know into the Investigation Book!
-
Picnic Under the Cherry Trees
Detective
With inhuman efforts, we managed to pass the Trial of Perfection. Where did the Japanese Garden come from and why did it make us achieve excellence in new skills? Does this mean that the City foresees big troubles ahead and is preparing us? We’ll have to see. But for now, let’s enjoy a stroll under the cherry trees!
-
Language of the Universe
Detective
I’ve wasted tons of paper trying to master the art of haiku. At times it seemed like I had it, but then it was just a random list of words! But we’ve collected enough fans for me to understand the symbols of Japanese poetry. I’m willing to take the chance for the sake of Jul and my friends. It’s hit or miss. May the magic of the City help us! Let’s start the Trial.
Martha has activated the artifacts. W-wow, I’m starting to see words on these fans! Together or not, your face is always before me - love burns like Fuji’s fiery depths...! Did I just say that?! Look, a box with cherry blossoms. And a letter!
-
Patiently Waiting
Mei
I’ve never heard of a westerner who would try to master the art of Eastern poetry! If your Detective passes the Trial of Poetry, he will be the first! As part of my education, I studied Japanese haiku. Look for a fan with the image of pine trees, a symbol of waiting.
A Sensu Fan with the image of a pine. Let it inspire the Detective with haiku words and grant him patience - both in the Trial and in matters of the heart.
-
Heavenly Pair
Detective
Juliette’s support is really important for me in this insane Trial of Poetry! But can I do it for her sake? No, enough whining! The whole world uses the image of the sun and the moon as a symbol of men and women. And the Japanese are no exception! Will you find such a fan in the Garden?
The fan depicts the sun and the moon, which, just like you and me, are always near, but are never together... That’s not a haiku, buddy. You know, I feel like I’m drowning. It’s so difficult.
-
From Dirt Toward the Sky
Juliette
The Detective decided to undertake the most difficult of all the Garden’s trials! How can I help him? I know! I once heard a song that said, "only someone who wrote verses about love can find it." It also said something about the lotus flower. Find a fan with a lotus, mon ami!
What a feminine fan with a lotus! It symbolizes the path from the mud, where the lotus’s roots lie, to the surface of a clean lake. Mon ami, I pray that it helps the Detective to master poetry!
-
Yellow Rose of Sadness
Mistress
Finish your Trial of Poetry. I’m tired of this commotion. Haiku symbols? One unfortunate soul once gave me a fan with yellow yamabuki roses - a sign of melancholy and sadness. I saw a similar fan in the Garden. Find it for the Detective and let him contemplate it.
Oh, a Sensu Fan with yellow roses. I recognize it. Yamabuki symbolizes the impermanence and shortness of life, just like women’s feelings towards their admirers, ha!
-
Fuji Fire
Valerie
I’ve not only studied bonsai, but also read haikus. Translated ones, of course. I want to help the Detective with the Trial of Poetry! The Japanese have a lot of unique poetic images. For instance, Mt. Fuji. So much poetry has been written about it! I saw a fan with its image somewhere in the Garden... Will you find it?
Mt. Fuji is depicted on this fan! In haiku, its fire is compared to the flame of love. I think the Detective ventured into the way of perfect poetry to describe his feelings to Juliette via the language of haiku.

Eye of the Heart
Juliette
Don’t worry, I feel that the Japanese theater masks you’ve collected are sufficient to achieve this mastery! To obtain the perfect sight of an empath, I must learn to look straight into people’s souls. I need to understand these masks and feel the emotions of the actors who wore them. Will you help me prepare for the Trial?
The Japanese masks look blankly at me, yet I see the faces of friends! I see all the shades of the Detective’s fears! Valerie’s boldness! It’s raining on a clear day... Two masks of Japanese kitsune foxes with painted flowers appear under a cherry tree!
-
Multifaceted Evil
Alex
Juliette must pass the Trial of Humanity! You have to be an expert to be good at reading people. My band was searching for an impressive evil image and I came across a mask of the Tengu spirit that’s used in different theaters. Will you look for it in the Garden?
A scary Spirit Mask, huh? This is Tengu, a nasty red demon. Usually it symbolized all sorts of bad human traits. Jul will have to understand these qualities as well.
-
True Hero
Detective
My Juliette agreed to the Trial of Humanity?! If something goes wrong, she will forget how to empathize with people and become cold as ice. No, I won’t even think of it! Actors from the Japanese Kabuki Theater use special make-up. Let’s search the Garden for a mask with the make-up of a Kabuki hero.
This mask just screams hero! There’s something about the red lines on the mask symbolizing positive traits... I hope it will help Juliette.
-
Jack of All Trades
Conductor
I’m not good at all this theatrical stuff, but Juliette has a kind heart and I want to help her with the Trial of Humanity. I once saw a doll’s face in the museum - that of an old Japanese man from the Bunraku theater. On it was written: "The mask of the craftsman Jo-Men." Find it in the Garden.
The doll face of the craftsman! It seems the moral goes like this: "a jack of all trades" with a golden heart can hide behind the mask of an elderly simpleton. Just like me, ha ha. I hope it helps Jul.
-
Hidden Virtue
Juliette
I must master Humanity, but what other Japanese masks can help me with this? I remember a story about the mask of a lovely girl, Ko-omote, from the Japanese theater Noh. I can’t even remember who I heard it from! Will you find this mask in the Garden?
The mask of the lovely girl from the Noh theater symbolizes purity and innocence. It can be hard to see, since purity is defenseless and is forced to hide from evil.

To Trick the Trickster
Cardsharp
So our compassionate Jul decided to pass the Trial of Humanity and learn to read human souls? Old Cardsharp is really good at this! How does it feel to look into the soul of a trickster? The Greek Hermes, Norse Loki... I’ve read that in Japan the mask of the trickster Usobuki was used in the Kyogen theater. Look for it in the Garden.
The Trickster’s Mask looks like it’s blowing smoke, but in fact it is whispering sweet lies. Let our sweet little Jul try to distinguish foolishness from trickery.
-
Unity with Nature
Valerie
You’ve collected the best bonsai trees from the Japanese Garden and they have taught me a lot! Please bring me some powerful artifacts, okay? Martha will call on the power of the City to help me rise from fantasy and crafts to the level of a true creator.
I feel the City’s power within me. I’ve never worked so hard on anything as I did on these bonsai! Now I know what it feels like to be a lonely windswept tree on a cliff! I know how grass grows through rocks! I... Look, a small Cherry Tree Bonsai with flowers has appeared in the Garden!
-
Path Through Rock
Huntress
Valerie will pass the Trial of Creation. She’s a fighter, like me. How else can we help her? I saw drawings of a "root over rock" bonsai. I think it’s a symbol of all-conquering life, fighting its way even through rock. Find such a bonsai for Valerie.
The Root Over Rock Bonsai. A truly small fighter, just like Valerie! Or me, fighting my way through the dungeons as a child... Give her the tree.
-
Generational Bridge
Lady
For the unseen judges of the Japanese Garden to acknowledge Valerie’s success in the Trial of Creation, she needs to be able to not only beautifully trim the bonsai, but also understand the meaning of each of their forms. One time I grew a kabudachi or "bush" bonsai for my grandma. Will you find one like it?
Valerie will learn a lot from the Bush Bonsai. You see all those branches growing from a single base? My grandma said that such a tree symbolizes the continuity of generations.
-
Where the Wind Blows
Lady Peacock
The Japanese Garden imposed the Trial of Creation on Valerie and we must help her pass it with dignity! She’s mastered the basics of bonsai art faster than my royal gardener! By the way, I once had a Windswept Bonsai tree. Let’s look for a similar one in the Garden.
The elaborate form of the Windswept Bonsai shows the struggle of a tree bent by constant wind. This is what the gardener told me. Let Valerie study the bonsai.
-
Stability and Balance
Juliette
If Valerie fails the Trial of Creation, she will lose her talent. She already told me that it’s better to start mastering the skill with a "straight" bonsai. It’s called chokkan and it symbolizes stability and balance. Find one in the Garden, mon ami!
The Upright Bonsai looks like a pyramid. It will help Valerie master the basics of this Japanese art. She’s looking closely at the tree and whispering something...
-
On the Edge
Detective
It’s commendable that Valerie decided to undertake the Trial of Creation. True, she has no patience, but she’s the most creative person in the City. If she doesn’t overcome herself and walk the Way of Creation, everything will be lost. Valerie has already sent me to look for a Cascade Bonsai in the Garden. Let’s look for it together!
Valerie says that the Cascade Bonsai resembles a tree growing on a cliff. It’s a Japanese symbol of struggle for survival. I hope it helps her with the Trial.

Depths of Consciousness
Martha
You’ve collected enough netsukes for me to plunge into the depths of my consciousness. This is a highly unpleasant experience, but as a medium I have no right to retreat from it. Prepare the artifacts: I’ll use them to call on the power of the City to reach a completely new spiritual level - that of a perfect contemplator.
Each City artifact fills me with strength. The netsuke figurines are set in a circle. My mind glides over them, light as a butterfly. I’ve acknowledged my pride and accept my power. I’ve learned sympathy and I now see the world through myself! I feel a Cherry Blossom Netsuke in my hands.
-
Rodent of Wealth
Cardsharp
Martha will only pass the Trial of Contemplation if she tames her inner demons. She’s asking us to find Japanese netsukes for concentration? These little cuties are not just souvenirs, antique netsukes are also worth a fortune. My favorite is the Rat Netsuke, the symbol of wealth! Find it in the Garden.
The Rat Netsuke will help Martha contemplate the material world. After all, gamblers like me carry these things for a reason. The rat attracts wealth to the house!
-
Circle of Life
Monk
In the Trial of Contemplation, Martha must come to know not only her soul, but also Japanese philosophy and how to use it. For instance, they have a very special relationship with death and longevity. This is symbolized by a Crane Netsuke. Let’s look for it in the Garden.
The Crane Netsuke was worn as a sign of longevity not only in Japan, but also in other eastern countries. Let Martha concentrate on it and learn the value of life and death.
-
Moon Rabbit
Juliette
We must help Martha with the Trial of Contemplation! The Detective once bought me a Rabbit Netsuke with a postcard that read: "The rabbit symbolizes compassion and self-sacrifice." Let’s find Martha a Rabbit Netsuke in the Garden. She could use some compassion.
This sweet Rabbit Netsuke sees right through one’s soul! How keenly the ancient Japanese noticed its compassionate nature! Give the rabbit to Martha for her Trial.
-
Tiger in the Garden
Detective
I can’t find anything to do while Martha is passing the Trial of Contemplation. Let’s use deduction and help her! My boss had a Tiger Netsuke on his table. In Japan, it’s a symbol of power. Look for a tiger in the Garden.
Not an easy task finding the Tiger Netsuke in the Garden, is it? Just look at this beast. Through it, Martha will find a place for power and protection in her soul. I hope so.
-
Serpentine Beauty
Valerie
I want to help, too! Martha must succeed in the Trial of Contemplation. I borrowed a booklet from an Asian store, which describes the meanings of Netsuke. Here’s an interesting one: the symbol of mysterious forces, telepathy, space and time. A Snake Netsuke! Let’s look for it in the Garden.
This Snake Netsuke has such finely carved scales! I also read that it symbolizes feminine beauty! I hope Martha can concentrate on the snake for the Trial.
-
Perfect Warrior
Huntress
We’ve assembled almost a full set of samurai armor and I’ve perfected my katana and shuriken skills. But will this help me pass the Warrior Trial in the Japanese Garden? I must not be defeated! The whole City is counting on me! Call on the power of the City to help me, then let’s begin the Trial! Quick, before I change my mind.
The artifacts and the faith of the townspeople lend me strength to follow the way of the warrior. Hey, judges of the Japanese Garden, I’m ready for the Trial! Protective stance. Calm. Two-handed katana grip. Lunge. Defense. Water strider gliding across the lake. Yes! I did it! I will wear this samurai helmet with pride.
-
The Toughest Knot
Monk
I have some idea about the traditions of the Japanese samurai and could help the Huntress prepare for the Warrior Trial. Symbols have just as much meaning as combat skills for the perfect warriors of this country. Look for an Armor Knot in the Garden, and I’ll explain everything.
This knot holds the armor of the samurai together and its shape symbolizes the personality of the warrior. Let this Armor Knot bring the Huntress the favor of our ancestors.
-
Warrior’s Steadiness
Inspector
The Huntress needs to be fully armed for the Trial of Valor. ? successful fighter needs not only good technique, but also obvious stability and protective footwear. I’ve read about samurai Kogake Shoes. Maybe there’s a pair somewhere in the Garden. Look for the Kogake!
Are those samurai Kogake Shoes? They are made of very firm leather! I hope the Huntress will be comfortable in them, otherwise she will fail the Warrior Trial.
-
Rigid Protection
Isabelle
I believe in the Huntress’s ability to master any weapon and pass the Warrior Trial, but a skillful warrior also knows how to defend themselves. I once wanted to make her a piece of armor and studied the samurai armor called Kikko, and today I saw one in the Garden. Look for it!
The Kikko Armor’s hexagonal plates will protect the Huntress from enemy blows. But the armor is rigid and will take some time to get used to.
-
Famous Blade
Detective
The Huntress is an incredibly brave woman. If she doesn’t master all the samurai tricks and fails the Warrior Trial, the Japanese Garden will take away her strength and fighting skills. Let’s help her become the perfect Japanese warrior and find a Katana in the Garden.
I’ve read about Katanas. They are a true symbol of a Japanese warrior! Take it to the Huntress. I believe that she can master it and pass the Warrior Trial.
-
Cruel Stars
Huntress
I will not refuse the Trial from the Japanese Garden, lest we all fall into eternal sleep. Better to fight, fail and be punished than to surrender! I’ll be the one to follow the way of the warrior. Look for Japanese weapons and armor in the Garden so that I can sharpen my warrior skills. How about some Shurikens?
Be careful with these Shurikens. They’re sharp! They are usually attributed to the enigmatic ninja, but samurai sometimes used shurikens as well. I’ll begin my training.
-
Inevitable Choice
Detective
The Japanese Garden appeared out of nowhere, and the scroll on its gates has forced us into the Trial of Perfection. If we refuse, the whole City will fall asleep forever. We need to demonstrate our skill in various Japanese arts. Who are the brave souls that will do this? Let’s sum up everything in the Investigation Diary!
-
Mastery of Illusions
Martha
It’s believed that there isn’t a single drop of magic in any illusionist’s tricks, but each illusionist makes his viewers believe in magic. Maybe this belief in a miracle is the "lining" of every trick. Is that what the hat is saying? Help me use the City’s magic to figure it out!
I summoned the magic of the City, and it filled the cylinder with multi-coloured sparks, rekindling ones faith in miracles. A faith that the magician’s tools contained in abundance.
-
Three for Two
Detective
As a child, I really liked figuring out the magician’s tricks. Maybe that’s why I decided to become a detective. Do you know the secret of the trick with magic cylinders, buddy? Find them, and Martha will show us!
Few people know that this trick involves three cylinders, and not two. However, even that didn’t help Martha figure out the secret of the illusionist’s hat.
-
White and Fluffy
Juliette
Did you know that the trick with a hat and a rabbit became the symbol of illusionists all over the world, mon ami? Let’s find Martha a cute little white rabbit! And if the trick doesn’t work, I’ll take the animal for myself.
What a wonderful rabbit! Martha tried pulling a rabbit out of that mysterious hat from the Theatre, and even from others borrowed from the townspeople, but it didn’t work.
-
Card Tricks
Cardsharp
My dear friend, Martha is used to using cards in her magical sessions, but it’s worth reminding her of the other properties of a card deck. Oh no, I don’t mean poker! Look for a deck of cards for tricks.
Ordinary playing cards are a good tool even for a beginner magician. But none of Martha’s card tricks brought her closer to unravelling the mystery of the hat.
-
The Fabric of Magic
Valerie
As a child, I saw some neat tricks with bright handkerchiefs. One time the illusionist even pulled one out of my ear! Maybe Martha could unravel the cylinder’s secret if she does the handkerchief trick? Could you look for the Magician’s Handkerchiefs?
I know a dozen tricks using magician’s handkerchiefs. They use threads, hooks, secret pockets... But none of them helped Martha with her strange hat.
